Evo 9 wont connect with ecu flash

Just trying to do a read my ecu and flash in the tephra no lift shift feature.

so far ive tried
- running the un-locker program.
-key in on position, both plugs connected
-I made sure the car had good voltage, even connected a trickle charger at one point. -I tried version 1.44, wouldn't read but it does connect to the openport wire. Version 1.39 freezes on me when I click read.
my computer is older but not junk. Im running windows vista 32 bit, the openport wire is a old 1.3

my next step is to try a new computer but im open to suggestions.
Any fuses I should check ? or another version?

Bump ? Tired 3 different computers now. Same issue, tired versions 1.39 and 1.42 and 1.44.

My other thought is the wire is very old, it's likely a 1.2?

I've read some stuff about having rom files loaded ? But I don't think it applies to me.

Just to update , I purchased the 2.0 wire and it works great.
I either have a bad wire or its just really old
