Couple new recruits to the E85 Army...

Couple new recruits to the E85 Army:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Danny came in to get retuned on E85 from 110 octane. His Evo is on a big weight loss program and he says it weighs around 27XX lbs at this point and is used for Autocross.

So far every single car I have retuned on E85 from 110 octane has made more power. That is saying alot for "pump gas" and almost $8/gallon less.

Anyway here are the stats and mods:

2005 Evo GSR

Mods:

TBE no cat
Greddy FMIC
Custom open intake
RC 1000cc injectors
Walboro FP
FPgreen turbo
GSC S1 cams
Ported exhaust manifold
Intercooler pipes
Sun Hyperforce ignition
GM 3port boost solenoid using ecu-boost

One thing that did change from 110oct to E85 was going back to the stock OEM exhaust manifold from the Megan manifold. This helped bring back the spool (we saw a loss of spool going to the Megan manifold last year when we tuned the car on 110oct) The E85 also helped with spool as well so you can see a huge gain in that area.

+40whp / +42wtq
in the midrange over 110oct

+80wtq at 3500rpm

Boost curves, notice 110oct ran more boost up top but less down low:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next up:

2005 Evo GSR

Mods:

TBE no cat
ETS tubular exhaust manifold
Custom "home brew" 50trim kit
Custom open filter intake with metal induction pipe
Tial BOV
HKS 272/272 cams
Custom IC pipes
Nisei FMIC
FIC BlueMax 1450cc injectors
Walboro FP
GM 3port boost solenoid using ecu-boost

+100whp / +93wtq over 91oct on E85.

Orange curves are E85, Grey curves are 91 oct:

And boost curves:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We use a Mustang dyno for all tuning at our shop. I usually post sheets printed directly from the Mustang dyno computer but I am going to change it up a little bit from now on to save some paper and scanning time. I am now exporting all the data directly from the Mustang dyno computer and plotting it in Excel. If there is ever a question of validity with this method, please let me know and I will print out the direct sheet and scan it in if requested.

Looks like the 50-trim is able to hold boost to redline, whereas, the Green seems to fall off. What would you attribute this to? Gotta love the gains over 110

The FPgreen is a small wheel stock frame variant and the 50trim is overall custom sized turbo.

There are tons of Evo's up in NC on E85. I always recommend it as a mod

Nice results!

The 50 trim evo 8 looks like a crapload of fun.. Single walbro on that?? She carries nicely up top, it must be a chore to keep off the rev limiter

Interesting observation. Mine is different. I would choose the green power band every day of week and twice on sunday.. makes power 500rpm sooner. Makes 400tq 500rpm sooner and holds it longer before dropping. at a cost of 20hp peak. Green would be more fun street car as it makes more power in the rpm ranges were street cars spend most their time.

even at at the track 8/10 drivers would produce faster time with green car. age old argument. what better 49lb 50 trim or 47lb 20g that spools faster?

I tend to agree. I don't really see a market for 50trims anymore now that the market has FPgreen / FPred / BBK's.

Especially here in California where a stock looking turbo is worth it's weight in gold.

Single wally. They tend to max out around 460-470whp
