Shane's 525whp Twin Scroll HTA3582

Shane has been in the PNW scene for awhile and decided in August to set the plan in motion for a stock block, pumpgas Monster. Fitting with a plate that says "M8NSTER". After doing some normal maintenance in the form of a 60K, we started adding parts.

This Evo 8 already had some good mods to build from-

ETS 3.5" FMIC intercooler and ETS piping
ETS 3.0" TBE with Aero turbine muffler
Walbro 255
Hallman MBC
ER MAF tune

After the 60k we added-

ETS T4 Twin scroll kit
Forced Performance HTA3582 with a 1.06 housing
FIC 950cc injectors
GSC Valvesprings
Kelford 280/276 camshaft sets
SparkTech Non-CDI ignition
Omnipower 4 bar
ER SD tune
ER SD Intake

First pull on the dyno was set slightly above WG line, which ended up being right at 20psi and made 402/300-

Next the boost controller recieved a few cranks to get it to 26psi which was targeted to compare to another car we had done not too long ago. Thaine has a road race setup using an HTA3076, 0.63 Single T3, and S1s. Since a non-MIVEC car can be more sensitive to larger cams and losing some spool it was nice to see the true power of a properly sized TS housing-

The bigger turbo only gave up around 25 ft lbs for a 1000rpm stretch. While it is less boost, the larger turbo is moving more air and more than makes up for it. On the street the response is intense. I am glad to see that I finally "saw the light" and started playing with twin scroll. There is an obvious reason why its factory, and once its sized the way it needs to be the response difference is overwhelming.

It came time for the final pull and seeing how much it would do at 28-29psi which is the historic limit for 92 octane in the PNW it seems. Shane had wanted to see 500whp from this kit and it didnt let him down-

The momentary spike to 29.5 and then drop back down to 28.8 kept it knock free and making more power than was anticipated. For giggles here is a comparison between this setup and mine when it was still a 2.0L-

While I was running the 3586, it was a 0.82 T3 on a MIVEC car which normally will always outspool an VIII. We were more or less similar mods with that aside, I was on a stock head/stock block/stock intake manifold and S2s. Twin Scroll is what makes all the difference.

Wow, that is a beastly amount of power on the stock block, good torque curve though, and spool hits surprisingly early for that big of a turbo.

Great Job! Looks like a fun street car. Transient response should be nice with the twin scroll setup.

This is amazing! Now we cant make fun of Shane for having the slowest car in the group!!!!!!

Cant wait for the summer and we get to see this thing whoop up on us lowly stock turbo guys.

Lol...stock turbo can hang for about 1/2 a fender.

Forgot to add at 4500rpm the Twin scroll makes 75 ft lbs more than my Evo did with the single scroll.

You might want to retest this "limit" with the twin scroll stuff. It seemed to me that twinscroll setups could tolerate more boost anyway.

Interesting, I presume because of the reduced backpressure for a given boost level? I have actually been able to run 32psi on mine but what I ran into is it wouldnt do it on the dyno because of ambient noise.

I took it on the street and it would be fine but what I had found previously is if I couldnt run the timing the boost didnt matter. Locking timing at 10* for instance, there was no power gain from 28-32psi on the dyno, just torque. Dropped the boost to 28psi and added a degree and it picked up 13whp.

I was at my self imposed limit for torque on the stock bottom end but it would be interesting to explore or on one I am not afraid to push a little higher.

Very nice number. Real good tq numbers too for a stock block. Must take off like crazy.

Thanks so much, Aaron! My evo feels like a real monster now!

Just driving it around like normal is surprisingly easy (comp stage 3.5 clutch). Idles super well, sounds awesome, and the response between shifts is great too. Oh yeah, the rocket like feeling at 4k is nice as well!
