Kinda off topic: Is 20psi at 3800+ RPM typical of these turbos? I used to have one, so just curious.

Mine did 29psi by 3300-3350.
I did not test & try what will it push on top, but conservative tune held 26psi to redline.
This on E85.

On 91 it pulled 26psi by 3300rpm, and was tuned to taper to 22-23psi on top.

Fftec in Hayward, running the most conservative Mustang Dyno along with GST Motorsports, pushed one to 440whp, and many to 425whp.
Stock E9 does 215whp on this dyno, for comparison.
This dyno reads spot on 15% lower then DJ.

Tom had good reason to keep this car conservative, surely.
Cooke be fuel or other issues.

One of the craziest setups i did with this turbo was back in 2013.

A 2.4L equipped with this turbo on hks cams.

Put down 566wtq

The HKS 7460 can spool faster than a stock 9 turbo and make more power up top. But they have been plagued with a number of issues that lead to early failures. If it was more reliable I would buy one.

Its larger then a stock turbo it cannot spool faster then a stock turbo.

BB doesn't make a turbo spool faster then stock either. All BB does is make your on/off (transient response) improve.

Also pulls done in 3rd. There is no 7460 GTII on 91oct hitting 26psi by 3300RPM in 3rd gear in 70-80F temps either.

Only place I could see 91oct with a 7460GTII doing that kind of boost downlow would be Alaska.

(EDIT: I may be wrong and this car in particular I shared has the defective WG flapper issue)

When I had mine, there were all these wild claims about how quick these turbos spooled. Mine was nowhere close, so I sold it, thinking something was wrong
god damn, the internet...

From what I remember they had a lot of issues with the wastegates going bad or something with the flapper warping im not 100% Its to long ago id have to go back to remember.

Some of them also locked up and needed full replacements from HKS.

Yep I remember it. Also the turbo came out the same time around the revised HKS 274/278 cams released I think. Ivey was the first to test the combination together.

There was a combination of issues with the first gen that added together to cause the wastegate flapper to fail. They changed the metallurgy of the flapper on the revised "Kai" version. I have one of the original versions that came with the cams. So far i have not had any issues with the flapper, but I don't track it, and I check/adjust the actuator preload on occasion. Its been like 70k miles and like 6 or 7 years of Daily since I installed it.
