Built EVO 8 - ECT raising when WOT

Hello guys

I have a built EVO 8 that Im trying to tune since my last block cracked on dyno (605awhp @ 27psi on ethanol by a local tuner)

I'm used with Honda tuning (B and K series, N/A and turbo, from 200whp to 600whp tunes), but never did a 4G63.

When I did a wot pull like 2nd - 3rd - 4th , the water temp rises a bit, from 88degress to 98degress (190F to 208F) and goes down as soon as I take the foot off. The water hoses are ok, rad fluid, etc, so I presume that I dont have a blown head gasket.

I tuned the car to 15psi using the same ign timing that the tuner used when the car broke, and I got 415awhp at virtual dyno software. When I show my cal to a friend he told me I will break my car soon. In fact, Im using the timing that we use at turbo hondas like 25* at 25psi @ 8000rpm. He said that it cause a lot of backpressure at combustion chamber, so I realized that it could be rising my water temps. So I upload a new ign timing map, using very low timing (that I found a lot of people use here, respecting the MBT timing), like 8-10* at 20psi @ 8000rpm, but after a datalog everything is the same, besides that my knock volts is pretty lower.

Can someone give me some advices on that ? Maybe something wrong on my cal ? Or that temps are pretty common after a pull ?

Edit: some guys are saying that 2.5volts at knock sensor is ok ?

I attached 2 cals (high and low ign timing) and the 2 logs related to them.

Some infos about the car:

JE 10,5:1 pistons, pauter rods, .12mm P2W clearance, stock bearings and clearances, stock JE rings clearance, new no-oringed block, ported head, 272 cams, ID2000 injectors, GT3582R.

25* at 25psi at 8k with a 10.5:1 motor is way way way way way way way way way way way way way way way way way past MBT.

be lucky you haven’t chucked a rod.

if the temp shoots up at WOT I’d say you are pressurizing the coolant system by mixing combustion chamber charge. If it just gradually goes up a bit you might be okay.

I would agree boost is getting into coolant system if the temp rises fast.

4g63 Historically don't need alot of timing.

Going from 2-4* at 3500 and slowly ramping to 11-15* at 8000 is a good rule of thumb for most fuels/turbochargers for moderate boost levels.

Less is more in the end.

It's got too much timing.

It's knocking

Then it's unsealing the HG.

Im using AEMTuner 3.2 (cal version 2.2) and AEMData 4.01.30. I just installed them on a new notebook and everything opened ok! (you have to select * .cal files, and at AEMData drag the channels on the right list).

The cal with high timing was running for about 6 months. The car pushes hard on that with only 15psi .. Remember that Im using 100% ethanol.

Now with 8 * Im putting 22psi to see the same power. That is ok to me, the problem I see that water temp increases a little the same way.

Water hoses are OK (not like stuffed), even fluid is at normal level in expansion tank.

I'm running now with low timing and 22psi.

Let me know if you can open the files, I just tried it again and worked.

Thanks guys

Here is the high timing log on datazap:

https://datazap.me/u/razorlab/wut?lo...oom=1203-11459

OMG 22* of timing flat across from 4,800rpm to 8,400rpm?!?!?!?!?

Dude, step away from the Evo.

Wasn't able to upload that one as datazap has a file size limit.

What timing are you using and are you using it flat across like the above?
