Boost?
-E |
Stock boost control solenoid. 19psi tapering to 15psi by 7400rpm. This is probably my first area for gain at the moment.

added dyno sheets

is factor x still doing business in vegas?
|
^^yep!
|
That's pretty good for just running 19psi... are you planning on increasing it? If so, what boost are you planning on running?
|
Thats something I am trying to get sorted out. The AEM is currently controlling the stock boost control solenoid. It is set at 89% duty cycle. I am not much of a tuner so I dont really know what to do to fix it.
Although...I did build (minus the shortblock which was AMS) and install this engine myself. |
im not really sure what you say. Your motor is pretty much built to withstand damn near anything. I say throw the stocker away and turn up the boost with something huge {thumbup}
|
^^+1 right there. If the J O B situation was a little more stable I would. I still have the engine core I could return to AMS and buy whatever bolt-on turbo I want. I may go that route.
But I would still like to crank the stocker up while I can. This motor seems to be on par with other people and similar mods. Around the 300whp mark the only items that really add power are the head, cams and AEM. It made about 50 more HP than stock on this same dyno (stock dyno done on feb 2005 w/237whp 240tq) |
Yeah, I can understand wanting to stay conservative so you don't break anything. Still, I think a nice 25psi tune would be perfect for your setup! You'd get good power (+50whp?) and it would be reliable.

I got a thread running in the AEM EMS section about boost control. It looks like the stock boost control solenoid has a very small window for tuning.
I dont know if I want to go with a MBC because then I lose the control the ECU has over the boost. |
I'm by no means an expert but i have heard going with a GM 3 port boost solenoid is the ticket. Your #'s look great for 19 psi on a stock turbo on a dyno dynamics. I made 402whp on a dyno dynamics, and the tuner told me if i would have been able to hold boost it would have made much more. E-85 @ 28 psi tapering to 21. I'm also on the aem and i think i will be trying this mod out in the near future.
|
Im sure you can wire in a gm boost control solenoid. I think 280hp/300tq at 19 psi is dam nice.
Now being able to turn up just the boost and to see soild gains on a fully built long block. |
I will look into the GM BCS then. I would just like to see the boost hold a little higher in the upper RPM's.
Thanks for the positive comments though. |
