Allister's car, from bad to good.
Today I had an EVO9 come in for a dyno tune. The car was bought used and was assumed to be "stock".
The first thing I noticed was the BOV was installed backwards and the cam sensor ground was in the wrong spot. Before I even started I flipped the BOV back the correct direction. The car was bought like that, as a reminder. The new owner, Allister here on EVOm, had installed the BR air filter kit, BR turbo back with our high flow cat and the BR inline boost controller. I then attempted to make the first dyno pull on the car. About 3/4 of the way through the pull it was obvious something was wrong with the car and it wasn't the tune. It was the lowest power I have ever seen from an EVO and was running horribly. The car had 53,000 miles on it. I suggested new plugs and maybe wires. After getting the wires off you could see where they were arcing so those were replaced too. The next run gained over 50 whp just from plugs and wires and it would then pull to redline. After some tuning the car was up 172 whp at 5800 rpm. Even where the car wasn't misfiring and running good, 106 ft bls of torque was gained at 3500 rpm. Needless to say, I think I had a happy customer leave the shop today! Thanks for coming in for the tune and I'm glad I could make such a drastic change to the cars power curve. Enjoy! Here is the dyno sheet: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...r/tune7309.jpg BTW, I printed the graph from 3000 rpm to 6320 only because 6320 was the maximum RPM I could reach on the stock tune, so for comparison the sheet is printed like this. |
Good job David.
I'm surprised that a IX with only 53k would need plugs & wires, but hey, the backwards BOV goes to show the previous owner didn't take care of the car. |
That is a good thing that you did for that evo owner. Too bad someone almost caused a good machine to experience unneeded issues way before its time.

The EVO's when turned up on horsepower will go through plugs and wires in less than 15,000 miles. I've seen misfires from stock plugs wires under that actually.
I'm glad the car is straightened out too, I'm hoping the owner chimes in at some point and says how the ride home was! |
The ride back was AMAZING! What a difference! I knew my car needed tuned but holy crap...I didn't think it was that bad. I still can't get over how the BOV was backwards from when I got the car in Feb and had no idea. It runs smoother and a heck of a lot faster. As soon as I got there and David ran one test he popped the hood, knew exactly what was wrong and what the car needed, fixed it all, and it was a happy ending from there.
I am SOOO glad I made the drive to Buschur's... It was about 220 miles one way. There is a local shop in Indiana, PA here that tunes cars but I've heard nothing but bad things about them. After reading all the positive feedback about Bushur's on this forum I figured the drive would be worth it. I couldn't be happier that I went. It was worth the drive, the gas money, and you can't put a price on having a peace at mind that your car is taken care of in the hands of people that truely know what they're doing. I look forward to upgrading more on my car and going back, it was a great experience. I would recommend Buschur's for ANYTHING. All the parts ordered from them thus far have been a perfect fit and are high quality. Thank you so much David, and everyone else! :) |
Sounds like a awesome experience. Bump for BR.
|
BR is a top notch facility and I think everybody already knows that. This is just more assurence. Great job David!

allister, thank you very much. I bet the ride home was a blast, the power difference on this particular car was amazing. Today you got more for your money than you have in all the other mods combined;)
It was great meeting you and I'm glad I could make the car what it was suppose to be! Let me know when you are ready for another tune when the new parts go on. If you send me a PM I'll work out a better price for you as the next tune should go pretty quick and easy. Thanks for making the drive. |
Nice work Dave! I cant imagine what the car ran like before the tune...Congrats and Im glad to hear your car is finally running like a true evo!
|
Congrats on the new car and the new way it feels. lol.
BR is a great shop! |
