ecu controlled boost + FP black + 93oct = magic
Below is a perfect example that shows just how powerful ecu controlled boost really can be..
This car has nothing special out of the ordinary.. it is a built 2L with oldschool HKS 272 cams and straight 93octane. ALL PULLS DONE IN 3rd Gear. Vehicle: 2003 Evo 8 GSR Fuel: 93octane (no additives) The mod list below: Self Built 2.0L mildly ported head BR ported intake manifold BR 65mm t-body BR race upper and lower piping BR 84mm intake pipe BR BFIC intercooler BR double pumper BR stainless o2 housing BR 3" tbe ported Fp black with 25psi actuator HKS 272 arp studs ported stock exhaust manifold hks ssqv bov pte 1200cc Grimmspeed 3 port ecu boost Graph Below: http://oi53.tinypic.com/290txqg.jpg E85 is next, and possibly an update on the 93oct tune as well after OP test new timing map I sent. car currently has no knock, so i believe it may take another degree bumping it to approx 520ish. Update: (heres the extra degree uptop. This graph represents the actual torque shelf i created for this vehicle.) - I wish he put it on a dynojet. id put $ that it makes 520 on a real dyno.. theres no way its flat lining like this with 33-34psi uptop. http://oi53.tinypic.com/euezvr.jpg Update2: (4th gear) http://oi51.tinypic.com/auwdgo.jpg |
Let me tell you guys, this is my car and Tom is the real deal for sure!. I didnt think this much power would be possible on hks272 cams but here you go. I cant thank Tom enough for all of his hard work. My car seems to be a beatch to tune but Tom never gave up and definately made the power. I cant wait for e85 and better cams.

Looks good, I will be getting one of those grimspeeds.

Great numbers Tom! Definitely the best results I've seen from the older HKS grinds with the pump/black combo. Let me know when you're ready to upgrade those cams Josh {thumbup} |
Not surprised at all from Tom's work, I'm also having some magic being worked on. What compressio ratio is the motor built to? Lets see some E-85 results!
|
Nice, I am also happy and I am in the same boat as you when it comes to tuning my car but Tom did not give up and its sweet now. My E-85 tune is next as well and later a new set of cams. It seems Tom is pulling magic out of his hat as you and me have got some good power for a crappy set of cams im running the Comp 272's currently.

bad asss!

Looks good!
Those FP-BLACKs can make the power for sure! So why are you ramping the boost up once you get to ~6k? Yeah, stick in some s2's if you can get some & watch that girl shine!! |

The boost curve is wrong though, its actually 1psi less. i set the omni map up wrong. Also, few people will be contacting you regarding throttle body shaft seals {thumbup} |

without the proper parts combination the setup can only do so much.. the HKS cams are mild, but still get the job done. that and the boost curve is what makes this car what it is.
|
Just curious what sort of WGDC is needed above 6k RPM to achieve 35psi on the black? I think I have mine around 52 to get 35psi.

Good stuff Tom :)
