MAP 2.3L FP Black GSC R2 E85 - Before & after results on multiple part swaps

I figured those who browse this section of the forum to help them piece together efficient setups would really appreciate this. So I'm going to share with you some before & after testing we have performed on a customers car.

Poe came to me with a setup that I knew had bottlenecks in it the minute we did a 3rd gear pull. I seen power falling off up top ( I blamed it on the restrictive exhaust setup and other things), and then we had a soft boost curve vs what we could have with a mbc added into the mixture of parts.

I tuned it complete on MAF anyways, because he wasn't sure if he wanted to make the switch to SD or not. After the MAF results we talked a bit, and both decided upon just adding what I recommend or close to what I recommend and how to extract max power with his current setup he already had.

Since It was my recommendations I credited him for what he had paid me already, and only had him pay the difference between the two services. I enjoy helping people make power and get their moneys worth so this is something i enjoyed doing for him and do it for others as well.

Here is the base mod list we started off with and the results:

Map Stage2 2.3L stroker manley turbo tuff rods/wiseco hd pistons
Stage 1 cylinder head rebuild (Dynotech tuning)
BR ported IM, ExhMani, and TB(65mm)
GSC S2 cams w/manley springs
ARP headstuds
FP DBB Black
Grimmspeed 3 port
Sparktech non-cdi COP
FIC 1450cc injectors
BR Double Pumper
ETS 3.5" FMIC
TurboXS intercooler piping
Synapse Synchronic BOV (recirc)
84mm FP intake w/ HKS suction filter
MAP o2 dump
Helix downpipe w/invidia test pipe
Apexi Noir (WS2) exhaust
Tephra v7 MAF /w ecuboost (bec enabled)

The results with this parts combination were the following:

Still decent power, but no where near along the lines what I knew it was capable of with just a few part swaps.

So we added the following parts:

GSC R2 cams (I would have prefered the S3 but the R2 get the job done :))
TSComp 4" SD intake pipe + filter
Hybrid boost (Grimmspeed 3 port + Hallman MBC)
English Racing Boost activated cutout (exhaust dump)
Tephra v7 Speed density conversion to eliminate the MAF

So there was a ton of top end gained and some low end as well. I cant say what made it spool harder, because every part we added can be accountable for that.

The cutout depending on how restrictive the back pressure was prior could be responsible for a ton of the power gains uptop.

The MBC helped keep the WGA fully closed during spool.

The Speed density conversion helps everything in general work together.

The intake pipe & filter helps everything work together (part of the SD conversion)

The cams helped top end quite a bit, and probably everywhere throughout the entire power band in general.

Here are the two graphs shared overlayed:

And here is smoothing 6 for those interested:

Wow awesome results. Can I ask why you would prefure the s3 over r2s ( I'm begining my next build to 750 and torn between the two cams) as I thought the r2s were better suited for 2.2-2.4 mainly 2.3 and 2.4dues to the lack of high rpms 9k+? I figured maybe s3 would be great for cars with a 2.0 2.2 SLR since they can rev much higher then a 2.3 or am I not accounting for something haha I'm still learning.

Amazing results again but can't say I'm surprised considering the owners tuner :D

Nice work!

interesting. but exactly the reason parts should be swapped one at time to see what part is actually doing what.

Great looking car, and AWESOME power to boot. Love it.

Why such weak afr numbers? Its E-85. Lets see some 12.0:1 ratios. :p

Safety first! Tom managed to make this much power at 11.5. Wow

dsm nexus Mar 13, 2014 08:16 PM

Tom, what will the difference be with s3 cams vs the r2?

You my mom?
I could maybe see exhaust temps getting a little hotter but Ive been running 12.2-12.3 on corn juice for over a year and my V.D. shows right below 400 with no problems. (Stock 9.8 turbo, however I do have a 2.4 long rod with all supporting mods)

:beer:To each his own.
