Evo 8 RS /w 9 turbo / S2 / FP race manifold / 93oct

Tim came down to the shop yesterday and purchased injectors, and map sensor. We installed the parts, then tuned the car. Tim said the car was night and day from prior tune driveability wise and just all aspects in general.

Fuel was 93oct shell vpower
Temp was roughly 65F throughout the entire day

Mods for the car are:

Evo IX turbo
FIC 950cc inj (66.8% idc / 11.5 AFR)
JMFAB downpipe & o2 housing recirculated vband
JMFAB 3.8" FMIC (garrett core)
JMFAB lower ic piping
Agency power titanium exhaust
FP Race manifold
65mm ported throttle body /w intake manifold inlet port match
GSC S2 cams / non billet version
Grimmspeed 3 port / 4bar map
Tephra v7 MAF /w ecuboost

Graph and some pics of the car. I was shocked when I felt the weight difference from an RS door and my GSR doors. It is really night and day. The power window motor must weight a ton in the GSR. My doors felt like tanks. almost like comparing a 2g DSM door to a gsr evo door. It made me wish I had an RS!

Another RS{thumbup} !
No plans for an E85 tune?

tscompusa May 25, 2015 02:15 AM

Ya we spoke about E85. I think he will do E85 soon actually, im not sure though. If he doesn't have any stations near him then he wont.

I had an awesome experience Saturday while getting road tuned by Tom! If I still lived in Lancaster I'd definitely be creeping around the shop all the time! Good, professional group of true car enthusiasts.

The tuning went without a hitch and I gained a solid 70 whp and at least 70 wtq over my last Dynapac tune and my figures were DynoJET. The car drives great. Who would've known with larger cams, turbo and throttle body, the car would drive better and with solid highway economy. I hit nearly 250 miles on that tank of gas including all the idling, starting, stopping and pulls!

The power band is beautiful and I have no need to use more than 6500 to 7000 rpm at wot on upshifts even with S2 cams. It idles well, is easy to pull out from a standstill and even seems to shift more cleanly! I'm super happy with the results, professionalism, knowledge and tuning process and would highly recommend Tom's services to anyone looking for remote or in-person tuNing with Tom.

Oh yeah, his Evo is wicked fast. Thanks again Tom! Hopefully we'll get together again for some E85 and speed density conversion in the near future.

Thanks for the awesome review Tim! It was a pleasure tuning you and meeting you! You will def have to return when you want more power :D

Thanks again for letting me tune it.

Awesome to hear it got good MPG also!

Looks like he has a larger intercooler, too? I think my stocker is killing me and it's barely in the 70s here.

It is a JM Fab intercooler and licp. It's a 3.8" Garrett core. I'd like to think it helps repeatability in warmer weather and allows the tune to be pushed beyond what it would not have previously been able to with a stock intercooler!

Absolutely! And I'll definitely be in touch for some speed density and E85 action at some point. It was a fun day tuning for sure and couldn't have asked for much better weather. It still ran pretty good last night at 74 degrees with a little more humidity. I don't think a particular 6.0L CTS-V with a sweet sounding exhaust is too happy though ;)

Good catch. I looked at that pic two times last night and was like ya thats not a stock FMIC, ill just wait for someone to say something so he says what it is.

Yes aftermarket FMIC helps big time for summer heat and 93oct. On E85 it wouldnt do all that much, since e85 in itself is a tremendous cooler. Everything helps though, and the FMIC is a major key in your numbers. A stock FMIC would most likely not get past 350whp or so with 93oct in the temps we tuned on.

haha nice :)

Forgot to update this for Tim. We retuned the car after he added a turbosmart 18psi WGA that I sold him and no other changes.

Temps were 52F during tuning and the car went over 400whp on 93oct.

IDC increased to 70%~

Tom why is it making peak boost over 4200 RPM and at around 3800 RPM ind of laggy for a 9 turbo? Were these 4th gear pull?

Cams, intercooler, pump gas

The lower the RPM you begin the pull the sooner it hits full boost. It wasn't being started until later in the RPM, so it doesn't show its true spool starting at 2000RPM fully loaded up.

I can get fresh pulls current in this cold temp we have, but this setups all over the forum, so just expect full boost around 3500ish.

No it says 3rd gear in the graph.

This also plays a role of course.
