Efr 7670 iwg Full race top mount on a stock block with Mr 6 speed
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg I recently installed my full race top mount efr 7670 turbo kit and had Chris aka slowpoke tune my car over at AG AUTOSPORTS. The car made 528whp and 423tq. The reason we stopped there was due to having a stock block and stock 6 speed. This thing is a blast to drive. The car previously made 432whp and 436tq on the same dyno. The only change was the turbo from a stock 9 turbo. I am still waiting for the video but I will post them soon. Thanks to Chris aka slowpoke for the kick ass tune. Thanks to Anthony and the team for letting me use his work space. |
looks like fun, time for a built block and tranny swap :) :) :)
|
Haha yes. Just relying to get the money back up. Then it will be game on and I'll let her eat
|
What fuel?
|
E85
|
The power curve looks like a blast! Chris is arguably one of the best tuners in the region. He's very thorough and gets results!
|
Finally a 6 speed :D
That torque curve is nice and flat. At what boost? |

Nice numbers! Good to see another EFR evo!
|
What you making
|
wow nice for a stock block
|
Thanks man. It's a blast to drive.
|
Don't you mean the only change was the turbo AND manifold?
|
Not to be smart but considering you can't use an EFR on a stock/stock frame manifold one would think that is implied?

nice numbers, I'm sure your having some fun. The spool on that turbo looks amazing, very nice choice. |
You're running a EFR turbo with a second BOV? I assume the Tial was from the existing setup?
|
That torque must be nice

The mani unsold u is a full race prostock. This is there top mount

Any chance you get that video yet? Bet the car is a blast to drive.

I have but it's nothing special. I have to get a retune atm. I had a few leaks that I have addresses and now néed more fuel

How is the fitment on the fullrace topmount manifold? I'm considering doing one also.
|
Looks like a nice responsive car! I have a 7670 with 1.05 rear coming next week hopefully. When you plant it in 2nd gear what rpm does it really start pulling at? :)

Omg your 6spd is going teh die!!!!!
Lol |
400+ torque on a stock 6 speed is asking for things to die lol
But good luck. Hope I am wrong :D |

I am NOT getting rid of my 6. Every time I drive a car with a 5spd, I'm reminded of why. |

My 5 speed trans in my evo 4 shifts like butter. and I mean BUTTER. and it cost me less than 400 for it. but good shifting is far more about clutch used. The carbon blade clutch I am using allows the trans to shift VERY well. 6 gears for me is too much. close ratio gears are just a pain to daily drive. a good broad powerband does not need a close ratio trans with many gears. a car with 1000 rpm of peaky power does. I would not recommend spending big money on a 6 speed rebuild. you will be heart broken and poor when it breaks. there are issues inside that cannot be fixed with aftermarket parts. the 3/4 slider for example is machined too thin. cant tell you how many I have seen cracked and not shifting. if it were to fly apart under full power it will take out the whole trans. these things crack at stock HP levels. in short best game plan for building these cars is dont spend money on the trans. 5 or 6speeed. spend the money on the right clutch. a light weight disc that engages smooth is the golden key.

Thanks for your input. Of the 3 other Evos I have driven, they had notchy 5 speeds. Now granted, that's not a huge sample size...although it was enough for me to form an opinion :) I think you could argue that any Evo transmission is a close ratio box, but I understand your point. Personally, I love the added gear for the highway. And the Shep box I have included the higher FD. As for design limitations, I had the entire inside of the transmission REM Isofinished and WPC treated including sliders. Will that help? God, I hope so as this tranny cost more than 10x what the awesome 5 speed you have did. I will probably cry on the forums if something bad happens lol |
1-3 gears in the 6 speed are stronger than in the 5 speed. but those are generally not the gears that break. 4th gear is the most common gear to break. the shep gears are certainly stronger and the rem treatment reduces friction. the only issue left is the six speed shafts are longer than 5 speed. the longer length flexes more under power. its like if you wanted to build a strong roof 20" joist spacing will be stronger than 24". Jon at TRE quoted me the aftermarket gears are a waste for the six speed. the real issue was shaft flex. for me I would just get fast at removing the trans. I see nice shifting 6 speeds being sold for 650-750. spending four times as much on one trans is not gonna outlast four transmissions. maybe not even two. sooo many on DSM forums spent big bucks on transmissions only to break them. the evo trans 5 and 6 speed are pretty dang stout stock in comparison. buy cheap, use a nice clutch, run it till it breaks. thats been my gameplan for ten years.
|
I agree. 6spd fo lyfe (fo me LOL). Every time I see a cheap 6spd for sale or someone swapping to a 5 I KNOW I should jump on it while I can. I will, as soon as the car gets running right.
|
Interesting note on shaft flex. Don't have the years of wisdom of owning a DSM. And as they say, the learning is in the doing. We'll see what happens with my 6 speed.
I will say, I seem to have good car luck. Got 175,000 miles out of my OEM engine. And my original 6 speed too. I think I'll be ok, but we shall see :) |

I been running 2.4LR+ FP black (pump gas) for 13 tmiles with 6-speed, but no launching and most of the accelerations on 1-3 gears :) Not so many miles on high ways and easy driving there. This must be the result for still running my 6-speed. For the future I have to adjust lower boost for 4-6 gears. Thanks 94AWDcoupe, you are one of the guys that I listen to when reading this forum. |
Lets not get too caught up on 6 speed talk in this thread! Lets see more clips of this thing in action instead!

I don't launch the car. Most pulls are 1-3 and never power shift. But she eats the tires in first. The boost hits hard and pulls. I have a funky thing going on with the car at the moment that I can't figure it out. I also just put a new headgasket and 625+head studs at 90k MIles. If I get 3 more months out of the 6 speed I'll be damn happy. We also pulled power out to help the trans stay together longer. The car had 4 major boost leaks the first time we tuned an still made 528. That's all for now I'll report back when I get more info.

Synchros, Springs, Forks , Keys and Seals : $335 Labor: $400 Gears: $1900 4.09 Final Drive: $950 $3585 was the total quote. However, I also bought a core ($400) and it needed some additional upgrades (more labor and parts). REM was $300 plus another $95 for the Final drive. Then I had the entire gear set, sliders, input/output shafts and forks WPC treated, which was $895 with a 20% discount. Add in shipping and a few other things I have forgotten, it was a shade under $6,000. |
yep, I got my fingers crossed for you.

So I got a great deal on this skunk 2 intake manifold that will be going to CBRE for some porting. Then she will be off for some color by my powder coat guy.

I would love to see a back-to-back against a ported stocker with this manifold, but dynocharts are hard to come by.
|
I can try as the dyno is in the shop lol. But I can post the last and then the graph from the new manifold. I also found someone to make me a tial block of plate so I can put the efr bov back on. Fathouse fabrication is a great company to work with. I sent him a message on instagram and he emailed me and had it worked up in two days.

MAP REV 3 vs Ported Skunk2 v2 both with full blown 70mm tb I picked up a used CBRE ported stocker, and will eventually do a comparison between that and a Magnus V5 whenever I upgrade. |

I will tryto do a same day dyno. No changes to tuning just swapping the Mani
|
So ive neglected this thread for some time. Finally got around to shipping the skunk 2 mani to CBRE for porting. Curt is a cool guy and was very helpfull with all my questions. Here is some pictures before i send her to the coater.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg Also had curt make two of the back ports 1/4npt to match up with my full race vacuum block Bought some minor stuff from stm for the car as well https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg Over flow tank, new gasket for the im, new hvac stickers for my new 3 pod dash https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg Added a CBRD ultra slim radiator to free up some room. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...27b6585656.jpg And now for the part that you all have been waiting for, the mr 6 speed finally met the ghost.{thumbdwn} but it wated to do so after i had bought a haltech and 2150s for the car. So now AG AUTOSPORTS is going to drop in a 5 speed for me along with an excedy twin disk. Haltech is being setup and tuned by crispeed. |
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...b8e8c827dd.jpg
Had a little down time with the car. I got a powder coated valve cover from evodan2004. He removed the baffling and tapped it for screws. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.evo...dc4f6cebde.jpg We got the 5 speed and the twin disk in. Put some miles on it before we hit the dyno with the haltech ps1k ecu. Durring tuning we found some issues. I had the original wally 450 fuel pump. This pump had a 70 psi relief. Quick math 43 base plus 30 psi of boost made a headache with tuning. Also we had trouble with boost control. Adding 1 % made it hit 32 psi. Found that the wastegate had the wrong amount of preset. Fix it and mad the car a bit easier to deal with. The car now has full flex fuel capabilities and makes 500. This coming year will see just how much the 7670 is capable of. |
nice
Nice numbers!It must be fast!

Also, interesting that you chewed up two 6-speeds. Our power levels and driving style sound similar, and I'm still doing fine on original 6-speed. |
