Sonny's 2.3L 633whp FP Red Single Scroll C16
1 Attachment(s)
First, I need to apologize for not getting this new thread done sooner to help clear up confusion on the last one.
Sonny had made 467 on S1s and c16 on a stock 2.0L after evolving his car over the course of a year or so. Eventually there was an oil pump failure and it was necessary to do a built motor. The choice was made to do a 2.3 to keep his original block, get the best headgasket sealing we could, and keep the price reasonable. Mods - SD tune ER2.3 build 2.0 w/100mm crank- all options, oringed, er oil gear, kiggly HLA etc Bushmaster Stage 3 race port with 1mm oversize valves GSR springs, gsc lifters R2 Cams Magnus Intake Manifold buschur ported stock TB 1250 FIC injectors AMS oil Pan Eagle Crank Full-Race Turbo Manifold FP RED turbo with single scroll stainless housing Tial WG Tomei titanium exhaust busher lower intake pipe ETS upper buschur catch can buschur intercooler ER built downpipe and open dump for SS housing. jacks tranny, jacks tcase os giken twin disc kw coilovers carbon fiber driveline curt brown ceramic wheel bearings Dyno sheet - Attachment 272366 This car is still a monster, makes great power on the daily, and with one or 2 small mods I think could make more. As far as more power on C16 there may even be a little left there though I am thinking not much. One thing that I am very pleased with is that it makes almost as much on WA 89 (cali 91) as it used to make on C16 on the stock motor and small cams. Aaron |
That is awesome. I had Mr. Brown build me a 2.3 long block, which will be using R2 cams & an FP Zephyr.
Are these the cast or billet R2 cams? Any benefit to using the billet over cast? |
These are cast. There were numerous reasons to switch to the billets and one is production tolerances are even closer than they used to be. The cam grinding equipment has always been CNC but there is more ability to adjust the lobes than there used to be. I feel that its not going to make any difference in power though.

That spool up is great for the single scroll!!!!

This graph/car interests me since I will have an MHI Red on a 2.3 and E85. Interested to see differences in spool up and curves...especially with open scroll vs. twin (our mods are a little different though)...

definitely some ass-kicking power. would love to drive that evo to get a feel for transient response. i'm also curious about that clutch. noisy? easy engagement?
interesting choice of injectors considering all the high-end parts. i'm wondering what you'd change to make more power. if the full-race manifold has 1.25" runners, i could see swapping that for 1.5" runners. maybe fic1050sp injectors if e85 is not in the cards? 65 or 70 mm throttle body? |

I was assuming that the 1250s are the older low-Z that leave a bit to be desired for consistency.

I think the buschur ported TB is 65mm.. the injectors are left over from when i just put the red on the stock motor, they seem to be doing the job.. Idle and Cruise are great. The R2's in a parking lot took some time to adjust to. e85 is not an option, i have no pumps even remotely close to me. Meth is next to help this pump gas get some life. twin disc is loud as hell, annoying to drive, decel noise sounds like ****s broken and it engages like an on/off switch.. Hooks great though and its lasted 12k miles so far. |
What's the compression ratio of the piston? 9.0:1?
