5 Channel amp and crossovers

Im new to the car audio bit and I am doing alot of research.
I searched and couldnt find this topic covered but my question is do you need to install crossovers if you have a 5 channel amp with 3 RCA imputs (Front, Rear and Sub)?
My educated guess is no, that would defeat the reason of having a multi channel amp correct?
Crossovers are more for mono amps?
any info would be great.
Thank you.

Most good amplifiers (regardless of number of channels) should have built-in crossovers. You'll obviously want a Low-pass for the fifth channel (assuming it's a sub) and it would certainly help to put a high-pass crossover on the interior speakers to keep the bass out and let the sub do the hard work. Now depending in the radio, alot of aftermarket radios have crossovers on them as well which would do the same thing.

Thanks for the info.
do you think that, assuming the amp has crossovers built in, a simple passive crossover on each speaker would be enough?

Without the crossover on the amp, I would use passive crossovers absolutely. But if the amp has them built in it isn't really neccesary.

No you don't need them, I have been in this scene for years. The first 4 ch should have a built in x-over for the high pass along with a x-over for the low pass for the dedicated sub output. What kind of amp is it that you are getting? Are you going with stock unit player up front? If so, then you would need to get one of those aftermarket RCA output to be able to have 3 RCA coming in.

For example from JL Audio Cleansweep system...

This should do all the magic. I believe there are other products similar to this but I cannot recall any other than JL. I am sure someone who is a professional or the know how will chime in to help out.

I hope this helps out.
