Well as of now I’m going to write it off as a bad battery. It’s weird though because it never happened except after a good 20-25 minute interstate drive. Is there any reason why (only) a longer drive on the interstate would cause a parasitic draw to occur?

Maybe engine gets hot enough to kick on radiator fans after you shut off engine? Did you change radiator fan & control module?

My racecar has a .10 amp draw and it will drain my PC925 in 2 weeks if I dont fire it up or put it on the charger. My draw is from one of my gauges. I just pull the corresponding fuse and its good for months now.

So the other night when I did the test I didn’t really leave the multimeter connected for longer than a few seconds..

tonight i I was going to do it and leave it plugged in and all and start pulling fuses but noticed that after about 5-6 seconds the draw amperage drops down to .01 and bounces between .00 and .01 (10 milliamps?).

10mA is great. Your 80mA was probably some memories starting up or in boot up mode. And then it settled down. If you don't notice anything staying on when you shut engine off, then you probably simply got bad batteries.

Right when I was starting to think the battery problem was behind me.. today, after a couple weeks of driving the car around with no issues at all, the battery just died cold turkey out of no where. was showing no signs of dying.

so back to where we were. This is the 3rd pc680 battery that’s gotten killed in a month and a half span (since having the built motor swapped in and new injectors put in)

this is really starting to frustrate me.

What you guys think about the alternator? What’s the best way to test it while on the car?

The SM 16-9 shows a procedure. Be happy to cut / paste the test for ya. Heres the diagram showing the voltmeter & ammeter

Thanks a ton. Is there definitely a POSSIBILITY that the alternator could be bad, even though the battery holds fine if I jump it off?

You can start with a simple test. Take your DMM and check the voltage at the battery with teh car off. It should be around 12V. Then start teh car and check the voltage again and it should jump up to around 14.5V which would indicate that the alt is generating power. Start with that and report back.

I’m scared to put a fresh battery in this car due to the fact it keeps toasting them. Can’t keep throwing $100 every other week at these.

Do you have a battery charger bc a battery shouldnt "die" after being discharged once. Either way if you can get the car started see what youre getting for volts as it sounds like your battery isnt getting charged by the ALT.

i do have a charger. every time I charge the battery - it cranks up fine. After cutting it off again though it is dead as dirt.
