woofer box dimension for IDMAX
 
Im lost when it comes to auto stereo so please be nice :).
I have one IDMAX12D4 V.3 that I want to put in the trunk. Could someone tell me the length, depth of box for one single woofer? I want the box to be ported.

you could do something like 12' deep, 17" wide, and 17" tall... Thats about 2 cubic feet. Thats a big box... That sub is a monster though

Is it going in an Evo? I looked at the box specs page and it doesn't provide any specific dimensions to make the port. It has a tuning frequency, but that doesn't help much unless you have a sub-box-making program to plug in the thiel-small parameters. You'll definitely want to get specific port dimensions from them...otherwise it will sound like poop. Ported enclosures are tough to make from scratch because they aren't as forgiving as sealed enclosures. The slightest miscalculation can affect the sound. Any chance you would get it professionally installed?

Port length calculation is as follows:

((14630000*(D/2)*(D/2))/((Fb*Fb*Vb*1728)-(1463*(D/2))))

Where D=port, Fb=tuning freq, Vb=box volume in cu. ft.

So a 2" wide port tuned to 30hz will need to be 3.2" long.





Or you can use this formula:


Lv = (23562.5*Dv^2*Np/(Fb^2*Vb))-(k*Dv)


where,

Dv = port diameter (cm)
Fb = tuning frequency (Hz)
Vb = net volume (litres)
Lv = length of each port (cm)
Np = number of ports
k = end correction (normally 0.732)







Or for a slotted port:

Dv' = 2*((W*H)/pi)^0.5

where:

Dv' = diameter of equivalent round port
W = width of slot
H = height of slot





I have the formulas for minimum port diameter if you'd like those too.

I would just stick with a sealed enclosure and be done with it.
