What's a good rms wattage?

I'm looking to drown out my turbotrix exhaust at highway speeds. Not looking to go deaf or run a sub. My range is around $200 or so, but i'm flexible.

What rms wattage should I be running? What are your experiences with your amps rms wattage vs the sound of your exhaust at highway speeds?

What are you running said wattage into?

And please don't say the stock squeakers.

are you talking about subs or speakers?

a 100.4 amp is enough to power a decent set of speakers..

for subs 300+ will make them heard, and please dont get any swap shop junk. The cheap stuff will not give you that low deep sound subs should give you. Theyll just play loud like a speaker with a slightly deeper tone.

Look at:
Alpine
Pheonix Gold
Rockford fosgate
JL Audio
JBL
Xtant

If youre looking for cheap, Pioneer makes pretty decent amps.

umm theres a ton more but thats all i can think of at the moment.

I don't quite know as the guy who had the car before upgraded the components in the door and rear, i believe. Haven't opened it up to check it out, but i'm 90% sure its not stock.

Once again, not looking to run a sub- looking for an amp for factory tweeters, door, and rear speakers.

does 100.4 = 100w, 4ohms? Not looking to roll down my windows and have everyone enjoy my music along with me... looking for something to drown out that dang exhaust on the highway...

100.4 means 4 channels @ 100W total - i.e. 4 speakers. 4-chanel amps allow you to L-R and F-R fades.

what rms wattage are you guys running and how does it stand up to highway exhaust / road noise?

OmegaBlack Jan 24, 2008 07:36 PM

It's really not the right question to ask, but I know what you mean.

With only $200 you're not going to accomplish too much.

You definitely need an amp, which means getting a wiring kit. That alone will run you $40, leaving $160 for the actual audio gear.

A good amplifier for that price range is the JBL CS60.4. You can find these at around $90~$100, leaving you with $60 for speakers. If you ebay hard enough you can find some infinity reference speakers or blaunkpunt component speakers for $30~$45 per set. With the shipping that will come very close to $60, completing your budget.

Upgrade the front speakers and leave the back for mid-frequency fills.

That should cover most of your road noise issues.

Do consider getting a sub, as it will greatly iomprove your sound quality.

That wasn't so hard now was it?
