Are Evo's going to be the new Integra?

It seems that in South Florida Evo theft is on the rise, almost on par with Honda theft. Thieves are apparently breaking into the car to steal the seats or the whole car in general. Any suggestions on protecting your Evo? Mainly what can you do about the rear passenger glass, that usually is what's smashed to gain access to your car.

Input is appreciated.

All I can think of is a high end alarm. How are they getting passed the electronic chip in the key though? Are these tuned cars disabling it?

Bergen Automotive Nov 29, 2009 08:10 PM

every high end alarm can be bypassed by a skilled thief in under 3 minutes, the only solution to NEVER have your car stolen is RAVELCO, check out www.neverstolen.com (this will guarantee your car wont get stolen) but thiefs can steal the stuff inside the car, so for that u will need a alarm. but for the entire car, its Ravelco

mr.almeida Nov 29, 2009 08:10 PM

I'm not too sure about the immobilizer on EVO's, but with RSX's you can use a Hondata K-Pro'ed ECU to disable the immoblizer and then the rest is up to your imagination.

Yeah i'm kind of curious why folks think the Mitsu immobilizer can still allow the vehicle to be stolen besides on a flatbed, even the remote start companies havent come up with a way to clone Mitsu correctly.... just sayin

LOFL at that thing. What a joke. I don't think so.......

Boosted_4G63T Dec 3, 2009 07:01 PM

so pretty much as long as we have an alarm if you put it that way our evo's should be safe?? cause i'd be hella pissed if my evo became as hot(most stolen) vehicle out there :(

Reilly Dec 3, 2009 11:50 PM

Your alarm system is only as good as your installer.

Anything that simple interrupts the starter wire at the ignition harness is quickly bypass-able. You need to interrupt additional circuits.

necessities in my book.....

Battery back-up siren
Batter back-up on the main unit
multiple sirens
interior piezo-electric siren
starter kill
ignition kill via additional relay
fuel pump kill via additional relay
stealth location of the main brain
dual stage shock sensor(thieves like to check for alarm)
tilt sensor if nice rims
paging alarm with good range
and...a separate kill not part of the alarm

overkill...run important wires in metal tubing, then wrap it with tape or loom
cut open factory looms under dash, hide all wires inside.

the list of things you can do goes on and on.

This is how my 97 Integra Type R survived all of this time in Fresno/Clovis, CA. through several attempts.

BTW, I am the owner/installer of my own car audio shop.

I use and sell Compustar PRO btw.

Applaud. Wow, didn't know so much type r"s are 300% more at risk than us

theft and vandalism is always going to be a threat. The only thing you can do is be smart about it. Ive had a rock about the size of my fist thrown at my car right in my driveway while i was sleeping.

mantosride Dec 5, 2009 09:22 AM

If they want your car they are going to take it, Flat bed, or a chain and a pull truck, what ever they have to do they will, seen it all to many times.

Reilly Dec 5, 2009 11:53 AM

A properly installed tracking system along with a paging system will stop even they guy with a tow rig.....

There is no such thing as perfect though, anything can happen. All you can do is decide how much trouble and cost it is worth to you to minimize your vulnerability.

I had just moved into a new house. My Type R was parked at the curb as there was still a toy hauler with a lot of stuff still to move in. They tried to steal the car with the common honda hood cable method. My shock sensor isn't too sensitive, so it didn't go off until the hood popped. The alarm went off. My pager was going off on my nightstand, or I wouldn't have heard the alarm as I was DEAD tired. I looked out my upstairs window, everything looked clear, so I went back to bed. In the morning I found the hood popped, but not open, still armed. Though, they won't be back.
Next night, same time. Alarm going off again. I looked out my window and there was a guy standing there with my hood open(car in driveway this time). He was pulling off the battery cable, not that it would help silence the alarm LOL. This time I was excited and ready. Armed and I had my Sai's, one weapon for fun, one for just in case.......In my haste to get down the stairs, I ate it. The time it took me to get up, they were gone. My wife called 911, they were there in less than 30 seconds. SOOOOO close to catching them.
