Car Cranks but doesn't Start
I was driving my Evo IX RS and hit a bump with the left front wheel then the car shut off.....pulled over and tried to start it..no luck...
I tried to plug in my OBD scanner to read any CEL's and it says NO Link..I checked all the fuses under the hood and under the dash...all grounds look fine too... When turn the key to the ON position everything works...radio, lights, dash, ACD switch.... Is this the case of the electrical gremlins?? bad ecu, bad ground... any input would help... thanks |
well sounds like your getting power obviously because the dash lights all turn on, one could be you mightve blown the fuse/relay on the positive terminal to the battery. If it dont wanna start, try giving it gas while cranking see if it helps. If it does its more of a fuel issue.
|
thanks I will check the fuse on the positive battery terminal...
tried to hit the gas when cranking....still the same.

then it could possibly be spark, try pulling each plug wire up one at a time and rest it on valve cover, have one person try crankin it, thatll tell you if each cyl is getting spark.
|
will try on Sat..when I go back to the shop where the car is at....
thanks |
try checking out the crank sensor
|
going to check the crank sensor again....thanks

This happened to me when my 10 Amp fuse under the dash (engine fuse first one top left) was blown, I know you said you checked all fuses though
|
checked all fuses and they're all fine... Crank sensor reads the right voltage...
I think I'm gonna buy a used ECU and see if that fixes the issue.. Thanks for all the replies... |
One last thought.. hows your fuel pump?
|
^^^thats a good thought , maybe bad pump? or loose connection...took me 2 hrs on my walbro pump install, because pulled it out iirc the connector in the fuel pump housing was only making partial contact. Couldnt hurt to try that, plus its a pretty easy job to fix.
|
I will check the fuel pump again....also I noticed when I cycle the key the "Service Engine Soon" light doesn't come on
I have a used ecu coming so hopefully that works... |
I just had this problem...turns out the wire from the coil of the MFI relay to the ECU was broken somewhere inside the harness, ran a new wire, and it's good to go. If you jump the switching side of the MFI relay and are able to start the engine, then that's likely the problem...if not, the ECU could be bad...I bought a new ECU myself thinking that was the problem at first.
