whole lot of goodies to install

right now i have the hks rs intake, helix dp and hi-flo cat, hks hiper exhaust, hks bov (vta), and works p2 reflash. within the last 2-3 weeks ive been researching the forums about what people have to say about cams. and ive been pouring every penny in my wallet and bought a whole bunch of stuff.
i got the 264/264 hks cams, hks cam gears, walbro fuel pump, fuel injectors, valve spring retainers, and arp head bolts.
when its all said and done and everything is installed im going to pick up a boost controller, probably a profec b II, and have my ecu sent to Dynoflash.

my question is how much am i looking at to have all these installed? ive got quotes from gruppe-s at approximately $1000 or more. also, do i need to get new headgaskets? there goes another $200 or so if i do and im giong flat broke just trying to save up for install.

i hope i have everything i need to get my car running mid to low 12's.

No boost controller? And if you got springs and retainers why did you go with the HKS cams? Anyway ya it will be a little pricey to install it all but if you have tools and are a little mechanically inclined i would do it yourself. You wont need a headgasket it is proven that you can change your studs without pulling the head.

He did buy cams though so a gasket is recommended. Make sure the gasket is the same size as stock. I've heard that a thicker gasket actually lowers compression.

Get a couple cases of Miller Lite, tell the woman you're busy this weekend, grab a couple buddies and put everything on this weekend!

Man what are you talking about. Trust me you dont need a headgasket. And ya a thicker headgasket would lower compression that is the point of it.

I understand he got cams but with springs and retainers he could have got more agressive cams. The HKS cams are the only cams that can be run on stock valvetrain is why everybody uses them but if you upgrade your valvtrain would be better off with JUN or Tomei or even the new Revolver.

Wouldn't removing the head to install the cams require a new gasket? I may be misinformed but i thought you needed to replace the gasket when you removed the head.

If you removed the head yes. But the evos run a metal headgasket so really you wouldnt but i still would to be safe. But to install cams there is no reason to remove the head.

Hey no problem. I wish someone was there for me when i was trying to learn all this info. But i had to do it the hard way. Anyway you can crank the boost up to 22psi no problem. What are you running for engine managment? What about injectors? Anyway if you run 22psi let it drop to 20psi you will be doing good. Or you can run 21psi till redline either way you will enjoy the extra power. The springs and retainers since you have them wouldnt hurt to install them. You will be able to raise the rev limiter if you wish. Depending on what springs and retainers you got you will probably run through the rpms a little faster due to lighter valvetrain. What HKS cams you get? 272?264? Since you already got them you might as well get them installed it could help in the future.

Oh ya and what you might want to think about if you keep the valvesprings is selling the HKS cams and getting something with more lift. Tomei, Revolver, Piper would be your best bet. The Tomei and Revolver have 11.5mm of lift while the Piper has the same but you can also get them in 12mm of lift. The HKS only runs 10.8 and 10.3 i believe of lift so you can see the difference you would be gaining.
