I heard that if you install an intake on the evo, changing the turbo inlet pipe, it will make your evo slower rather than faster because your car will run too lean/rich ( i forgot which one)because it will let more air in so it will make you lose power and torque instead of gaining. Is this true? cuz i'd really like to install one in my car. I heard you can tune it using a S-AFC II( which i have) any settings for this? and what kind of intake do you have in your car.

Stock intake with a high flow filter is pretty good. But if you want an aftermarket intake kit, check out the Injen intake system.
So far, I didn't feel any power loss but the power seem to be very smooth so it's hard to tell if there is a power gain. Yet base on the speed, it seem to be little faster (still need more driving to really get the feel).
If you don't want any bov noises than stick with the stock air box. IF you like pissssst, whoooosh, and air recirculating sound than this intake has them all.

I still dont know what to think. I just put the injen intake/ UI pipings on the evo and it all seems good, but from what I heard from the AMS guys they recomend, stickin with the stock setup. Do you guys know any more info on this subject?

I am using the A'PEXi power intake. It sounds really good and it effectively eliminates the high-rpm power taper. The performance gain wasn't that noticeable until I got Dynoflash, and now the car is running much stronger.
Bolt-on mods aren't gonna work efficiently until you tune them.

Yes i do have a apexi S-AFC II, do you know any settings for tuning so i could buy an intake and get the best outta it?i think you have to change the ECU readings or something
... thanks for the replies.

An intake isn't really worth the money to me. I've seen several cars make 450 WHP with the stock airbox and filter. I think that the Ingen intake was like $400 someone said. For that money you you would get better, more repeatable, gains from other parts. Unless you already have everything else.
Just my 2 cents.

any chance you can post pics of the unit installed? what other mods do you have? how much performance gain could you feel(little/some/lots)? is the BOV and turbo louder now? how do you like their IC sprayer reservoir?
thanks!
