ex honda... thanks again for all the valuable info... so now:
Can i just go to a referee station willingly to have my exhaust system tested and bring that to court?
Is there something that can be done to avoid taht curve ball? i.e. pictures of the exhaust on the day of the citation and a picture of it the day of testing and a picture the day of the court date.

lastly... what steps can be taken to prevent this ticket arising once again? like... if i get pulled over again... what would i need to provide to the officer that my exhaust system is legal?

Depending on the referee on how booked up they are. Most of the time you need to have a violation for you to set up an appointment(not a walk-in). As far a getting pulled over again...........well like I said before, it depends on what kind of an *** the officer is. I got an RSR exhaust on my '89 civic for more than 10 years and never been stop yet. Keep a copy of the CHP bulletin in your glove box because alot of popos don't know about it.
