So i was driving and loud explosion under hood and CEL

So im driving home, changing gears around 4500rpm and all of a sudden, the car wouldn't go faster than 35mph... I'm thinking:

HOly **** my clutch!!!! So i pull off the side of the road and put hte car in neutral causing the car to stall out completely, im thinking wtf...

So i pop the hood and looked around... nothing is wrong w/ the engine, no clutch smell etc....

So i start touching the piping when i notice the pipe going from the intercooler to the turbo is loose... So upon further inspection is see the piping came off from the Throttle Body to the IC pipe.... so im like " **** i have no tools" when out of no where one of my friends shows up and is has a flashlight and screwdriver... Woop woop saved the day...

So i screw it back on (CEL is on)and start the car, give it a couple revs to see it running fine and my friend leaves...

So i pull off to the road and go through 1st and second gear leaving off @ 4500 rpm when all of a sudden i hear a loud explosion... im like "**** not again" so i pull off the road and call my friend again... and pop the hood... as im looking for the ring that hold on the piping...

Its missing, im like WTF WTF WTF.... so i look way down in the engine bay and i see it sitting by the axle that powers the driver side front wheel... Way the **** down there... With no hook avail. I go to the trunk and grab the hook thing for the spare tire. Stick my hand down there and barely get it w/ the hook burning myself along the way. Screw it back in really really good and start the car...
I get home and now im sitting here scared.... lol

I have to bring it in to mitsu now on tuesday...

Questions:
1. Shoudl i remove my GFB BOV and put the stocker back on, or leave it on...??
2. Do you think i damaged the car?? because open air went to the engine... i left it on for a couple minutes before i figured something is wrong w/ the car...

You help is greatly appreciated

id put the stock BOV on just because it only takes 2 seconds

I heard of guys using T-Bolts clamps on other turbocharged cars and the hose pop off too sometimes. Well this happened to me a couple of times. Here is the solution. Well for me it has worked so far. Anyway, what I did was bought a tube of black silicone adhesive sealant and put a thin layer outside the rim of the throttle body. Don't put it inside the hose and slip it on because if you do, some might fall and go inside the throttle body. Your best bet is to put a thin layer outside and slip the hose on and let it sit a few hours. So far with me it hasn't popped of yet and I'm running 22 psi.

Man, I can't see how a t-bolt clamp would pop off if you're using good hose and beaded pipe ends.

This is just my opinion....I think the reason they pop off is also the reason why people put oil catch can on their car. After a while if you don't have a oil catch can and you are always boosting hard, a bead of oil will start to get sucked up and end up lining the connections, whether it be pipe to hose or hose to throttle body. Like I said this is just my theory of why they pop off.

Get a 10mm socket and ratchet and keep it in your glove box. You can practically disassemble an Evo with a 10mm socket , and it's the right size for the hose clamps. It is nigh on impossible to tighten the hose clamps enough with a screw driver.

From what I've heard this is a weakness in my eyes. It's happened to a friend of mine several times, and my first occurance was last week coming back from a funeral. I droped down to fourth to pass a bunch of old ladies and "boom" sounded like I blew out a tire or something. I lost all power and coasted to the shoulder of the interstate. Talk about look like an idiot. My wife was panacking and *****ing, I open the hood and sure enough I blew the the hose off the intake. Luckily I had a Shrade multi-tool I keep in the car. It got me home, but I never wound up the boost again till I got home and tightened it with a 10MM 1/4 ratchet. I'm working a deal with a hose company now to build a silicone hose replacement for all the hoses. I know Samco makes them, I want to have an alternative at a better price. Should have 10 sets by January. Factory hoses suck especially if your boosting anything over stock. T-Clamps is also a must for the new hoses.

I remember someone posting about using hairspray on the hose connections.

On a DSM, you can unplug the MAF and it'll put the ECU into open loop mode. Your car will at least be driveable and you'll be able to limp your car off the road and fix it in some place safer than roadside on a busy highway. I would imagine it would be the same on the EVO since the ECU architecture is similar.

Good info to know if it happens again, although I hope the new hoses with the T-Clamps will solve the issue.
