Evo & Crankwalking?
First let me apologise if this issue has already been brought up. Im new to this board and am too lazy to use the search feature
I know the Evo's have the same engine code as Dsm's and with the later model Dsm's (1995-99) they have issues with crankwalk. This issue has yet to be resolved and to this date I dont think the culprit has been found, yet theres been many theories it relates to the oil jets inside the cylinder bore. I know many 2G DSM owners have fallen victim to crankwalk and Mitsu has failed to do anything about it, as far as a recall goes.
I hear threw the grapevine that Evo's dont have problems with cranks walking, but with time the cranks journals actually crack and then split.
If this is the case, I know I will be holding out on the EVO and going with the Sti or 03 Stang Cobra (hah, that came out of nowhere huh?)
Has anyone heard any issues about crankwalk or cranksplitting concerning the Evolution? I'd hate to see
screw us on this again.

i had the same question as you... this is what mike @ RRE (roadraceengeering.com) told me...
"Any motor from any manufacturer can suffer from thrust bearing failures. But only the late 95 through mid 97 Eclipses have it in epidemic proportions. I have seen EVO 4-6 motors with the cranks walking the opposite way (pull clutches)."
-Mike W
So thats a no, the evo engines do not have crankwalk problems, unless your gonna do something stupid like throw a 6 puck on it... which would/could cause lots of problems on any engine
hope that helped you
