had cams installed finally...

Had my 264's installed finally yesterday. It's noticably faster, but seems like the boost doesn't come on as hard than before. I haven't really had a chance to drive it like I want since it's been raining. I do have some questions though.

1. I had the guy put them in at stock settings. Should I have had them put in with different settings? Should they have ben retarded or advanced any?

2. How about the idle? It don't really idle much different, but every once in a while the idle drops. Kinda like it stumbles for a sec. and come right back up. Seems like the car is idling lower.

3. My car seems like it's laggier. Would cams cause this?

4. I'm having my car street flashed on Sat. so would I need to have these cams set to something else before this is done?

Thanks!

With stock settings and aftermarket cams, I'm sure its possible (due to the large difference in lift duration). I would get some fidanza's or HKS gears to adjust the timing, It sounds probably like a timing problem, but then again I could be wrong.

You need to get your car tuned for the cams. Without it, your lowend and idle is going to be like you described above. At least, you need an air/fuel controller or an ECU flash.

Can these setting be done with stock cam gears? The car will be tuned this Saturday in Chicago by DynoFlash so the tune is taken care of, but if the cams can be set a different way I'll try to have it done before I go to get it tuned?

You don't need cam gears with 264/264s. Have the car tuned and it will be prefect again. When I installed mine I had the exact same impressions. Gave Al a few hours to work his magic and the car is a monster. Just get it tuned.

Good luck!

Al is the one who told me no cam geers necessary. Just let him tune it and you'll be golden.

Hks cams are designed for stock timing... No timing adjustments needed, but to each his own

I noticed alot of torque when I installed the cams spinning the tires in the corners, have you tried flooring it? I had a custom tune before cams and that might of helped me...

By the way tuning madde even more of a difference, cams made my car into a beast

It shouldnt affect spool time...

Okay.....I had a bit of a scare today. I went into a store to get some food and my car was timing itself for about 20 sec. or so. I heard it shut off before I got inside. I come out and start my car and it sounds like my Walbro just decided to get 100 times louder. I shut it off and start iit up again. Now this time there is this crazy sound coming from under the hood. Sounded like a cam gear was rubbing up against the timing belt cover or something. I shut it off....called the guy that installed the cams.....let him try to hear it over the phone.....and shut it off while I talked to him. I tried starting it again and then the sound went away and hasn't come back. I dropped my car off after work so he could check it out, but I was just kinda curious what this could possibly be.

Any ideas?

Once you get tuned you will notice a good bit of difference. Lowend torque and highend pull are greatly improved. On a side note, my Walbro is loud also. I can hear an audible whine inside the car, but the car runs fine.

Mayhem.....yeah Billy installed them on Monday. He just called and said everything was fine. He took it apart and checked everything and said everything was in spec. I guess it was one of those one time things.....hopefully. I hope I make it to Chicago to get tuned.

BTW.....this noise I speak of was not the Walbro at all. This was coming from the valve cover and it was a constant noise like something turning.

Check your cam angle sensor.
