Is a ecu re-flash or a piggy back computer necessary?

Is a ecu re-flash or a piggy back computer necessary?

I just got my Evo 8 a few weeks ago and I was thinking of putting on an exhaust and cat delete, and maybe an intake.
From what I have read here if you do even these simple mods you may loose power unless you do a computer as well?
Down here in NZ we don't really get guys that offer reflashes of the stock ECU like I hear a lot of talk about on these forums. Does that mean I would need to get a Greddy E-manage, or Power FC or something similar?
Since in I'm NZ, I have a Jap spec Evo 8, and can easily get pretty much any japanese parts, but getting american made parts is a lot trickier, so I would rather go with japanese parts if anyone has any suggestions.

You just won't have as much power as you can get out of the upgrades without a flash or computer...you'll still gain power from the mods

Ok so I will still gain power from these mods as per usual but also as per usual you need a retune to get the most out of them?
Has anyone had much experience with the japanese computers like the E-Manage, and the Power FC? Any thoughts on the systems, or ideas for other systems, keeping in mind that I don't have easy access to American made stuff.

Yeah, I just have a turboback and it's giving me lots more power, but with a reflash I could be getting like 20 more hp out of it...probably, maybe more...and with the flash or computer managment the whole thing will run better too, mine sometimes sputters and pops because it's not tuned A:F properly and the exhaust has altered the stock A/F ratio

Cool cheers UT_Evo I was just under the impression from some things that had been said that you might actually lose power from the basics, its good to know I won't

With just my intake and exhaust, my car dosent seem to have gained anything bout more intake and exhuast noise. 2 guys locally have done similiar mods and felt the exact same thing. Both got dynoflashed and loved the improvement. I will be getting fuel pump, boost controller and then getting a dynoflash myself

I would recommend some type of engine management system that allows you to alter your A/F, timing, and boost. Check out this thread. Intakes and exhausts can make you run a little too lean...
