Defi BF EGT -- strange reading

When I started my car today my EGT gauge pegged at 1100 C for about 3 seconds and then dropped to normal for idle (550c).

I am assuming that this was a gauge error or a short in the sensor. Has anyone else had this problem?

This is the first time it has ever done this

Background:
I tapped the sending unit about 2 inches off the head in the exhaust manifold in chamber number 2. I have had the gauges since October of 04.

i wouldn t worry about it if it was there for only 3 seconds, if it was constant then u might have problems. Don t worry

actually 1100 is pretty common when driving hard but not at idle, when driving hard and u get temp above 1500 that s when things start to melt lol.

My bad i just noticed your temp was in celcius so yeh that s kind of high, but like i said if it was there for only 3 second u wont have any probs.
