Thats awsome 3240!!! You've come a long way. Can't wait to see the fully tuned dyno #'s on race gas.

Hey John, are going to dyno @ Mac when you return? You still using Autronic? Can't wait to see that Monster! That Turbo is as big as my spare tire!

That's an awesome setup. The engineering behind it is impressive.

I am wondering one thing. From the sounds of it you have the supercharger building boost directly into the turbo. If the turbo is feeding directly off the supercharger, what happens when the turbo starts pulling more air than the SC can produce? It seems like it would become a big restriction. Do you have it setup to pull from a different intake source at that point?

You might have it setup differently than what I'm thinking of. Just curious if you would go over how you have the setup routed.

Keep us updated!

I believe he has a supercharger bypass. There may have been a pic of it earlier in the thread.

It's actually just the opposite. The turbo feeds the supercharger. What spools a turbo? Exhaust flow. The supercharger makes the engine act as if it were 4.0L instead of 2.3L so the turbo spools as if it were bolted to a 4.0L engine instead of a 2.3L engine. Also, once the turbo begins to spool it feeds some boost into the supercharger helping the supercharger to spool even faster.

I'm going to keep much of the detail secret for now as it's never been done before. The supercharger does have a bypass valve and once the turbo really begins cranking the supercharger is totally bypassed. The bypass valve (system) is totally unique and has never been done before. Right now the bypass system is double top secret! Eventually the details will be released, probably in one of the magazines. Many people have commented that dual charging doesn't work well, has problems, etc. They're all correct, there have been flaws in previuos attempts. This dual charger system is totally unique and has never been done before. Not on the Lancia S4, the HKS MR2, the STI that I've read about, etc. That's why I'm so excited about this project and I believe that the issues of the past have been solved. The transition from supercharger to turbo is seemless. It feels like someone has placed a 4.0L engine into this car with a huge turbo attached.

The cooling system is also incredible. We will be able to autoX this car without any heat issues.

The biggest downside so far to the project is cost and weight. The system is quite heavy.

I promise that all of the engineering details will eventually be released. I appreciate all of the interest in this project as it's made it really fun. We do plan on running this car at the shootout in August. I'm looking forward to it!

The car will be back in Colorado at the end of August. We are still using the Autronic and it's worked extremely well. We will use the dyno at MAC. I'll let you know when we're going to be there if you want to come check it out.

I would be interested in seeing how much power you could make with a high-flow catalytic convertor and 91 California gas (and maybe methanol injection). And on this same setup the gas mileage you get. I know this sounds crazy, but imagine the potential for an emissions friendly, 4 cylinder car that gets 30+mpg and makes 600hp!

It will be tuned to run on 91 octane. Even with cats I don't think that it would ever pass emissions. We have a methanol injection system in the car but I'm not sure that we'll ever activate it. The cooling system seems to be very efficient and I'm not sure that we'd see any benefits from the methanol when running C16. I have no desire to run methanol on the street when using 91 octane as the car makes plenty of power without it.

It would be a cool project to try and build a car as described above.
