first mod

I currently have a boost gauge and nothing done performance wise... Im thinking of the first mods to be done is the HKS intake system and an MR BOV... I am not going to go crazy modding it but i would like to hear the BOV while gaining the most HP....Please give any suggestions

the MR bov doesnt sound different from the stock one. Just get an intake system if you want to hear the bov. You can hear it well. I would at least also look into a boost controller as well.

I'm not THAT knowledgable, but I think everyone will say "OH GOD NO!!!!!!!" Do yourself a favor and get an MBC, and TBE, and switch out the filter with a K&N drop in panel filter, switch out the BOV if you really want, another way to make it loud is take off the airbox cover (supposedly, I've never done it) But an intake with no tune is probably gonna screw you over and make you lose power, but your BOV will be louder...

Im looking to spend no more than $500 so i would think that the TBE would be out of the question...

450 custom fabbed somewhere, but other than that, I think you're right... in that case, my vote is this: get a fairly decent MBC and a tune

So maybe the intake and a boost controller and a tune for under $500?

Don't get the intake without a tune...as people have already stated, it will make you lose power. Now, once you're tuned with one...that's when you'll see a gain. My vote goes with an intake, MBC, and a flash/tune...should be right around $500 if not a little bit more.

yeah, that's a good vote, get an intake, a mail-in flash, MBC... with a tune, the intake shouldn't make you run into any problems unless you get a crappy intake, and I'm not gonna say which ones are crappy or not, cuz no one really knows 100% for sure

For around $500 I'd start with a reflash and an axel back exhaust.

Consider exhaust first for gaining hp. You'll see more gains there than in an intake.

Exactly. You'll gain far more HP with an exhaust upgrade. Save up longer for a full turbo-back if all you have is $500. Actually, someone is selling a used Buschur TB with high flow for $550 shipped. Someone is selling a Megan Racing TB for even cheaper.

For 500 bones, I'd suggest (keeping in mind I've done almost no modding to my car, but it's starting week after next)...cat-back exhaust (many are in that 500 area). My concern with doing the MBC (if you're not going to do a new BOV, which is part of the equation) is that I've seen a few problems holding significantly higher boost with the stock BOV (although some do ok, many leak over about 21 psi.) So, as I said, I'd start cat-back, then BOV/MBC (same time), then Intake/tune (same time or just tune as the stock box isn't bad if you're not going crazy and don't care about the BOV sound.) Just my .02, and have fun with the mods.
