So I went to go get flashed...

So I went to go get flashed, and on top of handful of other hang ups, he says if he flashes the ECU then it may trigger the immobilizer, rendering my car useless unti we get the ECU to a dealer.

He says the car has been flashed before, and that was causing the issue.

My questions, can a dealer reflash the ECU back to stock?

How can I avoid the immobilizer issue in the future?

Who's doing the flash? I don't think I heard of the immobilizer getting effected by a flash.

as far as i know, the dealer cannot flash back to stock.

if he has flashed an '03, '04, '05 he shouldbe able to flash you without immobilizing your ecu.

i am speaking from experience. an '03 was flashed on my '04 by accident and immobilized the car. i believe the '05 is unique also, but i am not sure.

make sure he has done your model year before flashing.

My car is an '03.

I would rather not post his name but he was suggested to me by a very large name in tuning/performance.

Don't get you car flashed back to stock by the dealer, they might ask questions and you know how that goes. See if you can find out who flashed the car in the first place...if that's possible.

Here is what he had to say-

"Garrett,

I just saw your post on EvoM. Safest way to do this is get flashed back to
stock by the dealer. Just for reference, there are 2 stock EVO images for
the 03, 2 for the 04, and 1 for the 05. To be 100% certain that the car is
1 of the 2 stock images for the 03, the checksums must match. They did not,
and you saw the checksums yourself. Like I said, I was 90% sure that it
would work, but did not want to risk it. I've had this happen to a couple
of customers. They were flashed back to stock by the dealer, then reflashed
by me with no ill effects.

I've flashed hundreds of Evo's so what we did were just precautionary.

Thanks,
[removed]"

No one has heard of the happening before?

No, it wasn't him.

Stop harping on who it was and contribute something beneficial.

He did nothing wrong, and I did not know the car had been flashed before he checked, so there's no way he could have warned me about this beforehand.

Nah, I don't think that looks like Shiv's typing. He was a journalist, meaning he is somewhat fluent in his writing and understands grammar pretty well. *Edit* Oops too late.

In any event, the checksums for p0300 reflashes are different than the standard checksums you see on 03s. So, if the tuner saw one of those checksums it would certainly throw up a red flag not to flash the car.

The dealer can flash the car back to stock, but will most likely do so with the updated p0300 flash, which you do not want. If the tuner does not recognize the checksum chances are it is not a p0300 flash. The tuner should have a list of checksums for different ECU codes, and dealer updates.
