My ATP 3071 dynoed…

I had my car dynoed today, you can see the mods in the signature. I think this dyno might be very different from the ones you guys are used to, this is a system which use four individual dynamometers that you put on each hub after removing the wheels. Here’s some information on the system they use:

http://www.rototest.com/index.php?DN=28

I had my car ran there when it was 100% stock three years ago and I then got these numbers: (at the hubs)

269hp @ 6500rpms
359Nm @ 3500rpms

Today I got these numbers:

367hp @ 7000rpms
454Nm @ 5000rpms

All the measurements were made using a static method braking the engine in 500rpm intervals for three seconds. We also made a sweep measurement between 2000-7500rpms but I don’t have the results from that run yet.

I really can’t compare these figures very well with other runs on here as I don’t think any were made in static intervals so we have to use my stock run as comparison.

They dyno crew though that the torque was dropping of a bit too much, don’t know if it’s the turbo that is the limiting factor or something else?

They said to calculate 12% transmission loss, if I count 367/0,88 I get 417hp in the engine, don’t know if that is a good estimate?

Any comments?

If you got 269 hp when the car was stock then its safe to think that the numbers on that "dyno" are very high since hp at the crank for a stock Evo is around 276. You got 367 hp after the turbo, thats pretty damn low if you ask me. Those numbers are very low since a stock turbo can easily push those numbers with all the right mods (TBE, Cams, etc). A Dynojet shows about 235-240 whp for a stock Evo and 330-340 for a modded Evo with cams, so a 100 hp increase is attainable easily with the stock turbo.

He dyno'd 3 years ago. The dyno could of been recalibrated since then. I know a lot of the dyno owners around year like to screw w/ theirs at least once a year. Plus, the turbo is only rated at 450hp, so a 417hp at the crank seems about right.

I did a few G-tech runs as well and I got pretty consistent 11,6-11,7 times @ 120mph, what does that say about the power? I'll be trying some real 1/4 runs with proper timing equipment in a few weeks to verify those G-tech numbers.

Well, I don't trust the G-tech enough to draw solid conclusions, it might be a bit on the optimistic side At least not until I’ve had them proved with proper timing equipment

Also, I always though it was the speed that told you most about the power not the time? I was using both launch control and anti lag when doing those times so you could probably say that I used the power more effectively.

How do you like the G-tech? I always wondered how good there numbers were.

FYI: Don't put much stock in that G-Tech. It's a neat toy for A/B testing, but I found it's accuracy to be rather optimistic when it comes to 1/4 E.T.s.

I still have some surge between 3,5k and 4,5k in 3rd gear and up, not that bad but it’s still there. Still running the Tomei cams and so far I haven’t played around with the gear settings at all. I’m running around 26-27psi at full boost and everything seam to work fine otherwise, car feels strong and pulls very nice, especially in the higher gears. I’ll have to wait until I can try the Ľ mile with proper timing to see some real figures.

The later version of the G-tech is supposed to be very accurate as long as you spend good time with the calibrations. We have a guy here in Sweden who did a 10.52 run with his EVO2 last summer and I think the G-tech said 10.53, so that’s not bad at all

As I said above it might be due to what version of the G-tech you are using as well as how good the calibration was done. Still, I won't trust my figures until I have them verified

an 11.6/7 should net you approximately 420 Your trap speed implies a bit higher 440-460, probably closer to 438-440... (I calculated this for approx 3300# weight and got exactly 445hp based on your trap speed, and 418hp based on your 11.6)

I have an HP calculator on my forum www.aktivematrix.com if you want to figure it out again if you have an accurate weight on the car... All these calculations aren't exactly accurate, and throw in the GTech pro which can be a MPH and Tenth off..
