Blow Transfer Case! Kinda Cool.

I just feel bad for the people who actually have stock cars, that also dont abuse the car that cant get a warranty claim cause some ahole stripped his car of mods before going to the dealership and got a new tcase.
the warantee issue comes along when they don't replace something because you have a strut bar... and it has nothing to do with the damn transfer case whine. or if you have an intake... which has equally little to do with it. or if you have an exhaust nad they won't replace their improperly shimmed transmission.

The transfer case houses a ring and pinion in the exact same ratio as your rear differential. The ring gear is directly connected to the output of the transmission, that ring gear is attached to A: your front differential carrier and B: the pinion gear that attaches to the center differential coupling which sends power to the rear wheels. When you stop sending power to the front wheels you put TREMENDOUS amounts of stress on that center viscous coupling. Expect it to be toast now with the "super cool RWD burnouts" you were doing.
Your front differential spider gears ARE NOT LUBRICATED BY THE TC FLUID!!! PERIOD!!! GET OVER THIS MYTH!!!! The front diff is lubricated by transmission fluid fed from the tranny to the TC through a small oil passage between the two components. The ring gear and pinion are lubricated by the TC fluid. The reason that the TC fluid should be changed so often is because the ring gear is driving the pinion. From and engineering standpoint this is a BAD idea, but it WORKS and it fits the bill for Mitsu's application. The reason that this is a bad idea is because driving a pinion with a ring gear generates tremendous amounts of heat. The reason your TC survives this is threefold... A: The ring gear running backwards throws the TC oil directly onto the pinion without the oil needing to travel all the way around the ring first, so there is tons of lubrication there B: The oil that mitsu uses is specifically designed for this type of abuse, and changing it often will significantly prolong the life of your TC. C: There are a bunch of heat exchanging fins on the bottom of your TC to get rid of heat, and if you look at the undertray, it even directs air there to help the cooling.
And on topic, take the car in and pay for the repair, your damage is out of the scope of your warranty, you have to pay to play.

I blew my transfer case doing a very bonehead thing. Towing the car with only the front off the ground. I know......But I had my insurance cover it. Good thing too. It was a $5100 bill to replace the TC on my 05. Took 30 days to get the car back.

All you people that are saying that mitsu shoudl be voiding everyones warranties because the people are occasionally launching theyre cars or speeding or anything else are just plain stupid. I worked at a few dealerships and the thing is like chavy for example in order to be a gm certified service center, they have to buy tons of useless special tools for each car which just lay around in the attic of the dealership and no one uses them, thats why Chevy will always accept a warranty claim, they basically try to make the money back that they spend on all that and they know that gm has calcualted warranty claims into their equation therefore they can charge them a 100$ an hour to do repairs and warranty work because they will always get the money from GM, and i had numerous cars in the past from a Jetta, to a Cavalier, to a Volvo S-40, and now the evo and every car i have i drive it like i stole it pretty much, if stuff breaks im taking it into the dealership and getting it fixed under warranty, because thats what i paid for the car for. My question is why say i have a 45000 mile warranty when it will just get rejected because i have a K&N drop in filter. Man some of you guys are just hilariously rich and dont really care but as long as i never take my car to the track who is supposed to tell me that my normal driving on the street is a reason to void my warranty. Am i the only one on this forum that doesnt baby the sh** out of his car. Man you all that flame on the kid for taking his aftermarket parts of are just gay, i would do the same in a heartbeat. I didnt buy my 35000$ sports car to drive it 10mph everywhere i go but thats just my opinion.

maybe thats why gms earnings were so poor? If you want to get into details like this then up the price of the evo to 50K.. add some more hp and call it a day..at that price i would expect them to repair everything and everything that could go wrong, as it is now.. the evo is pay as you play race car. you really cant say.. hey I bought a 30K sports car that performs like a 60K sports car an expect there to be no drawbacks. If you bought this car thinking it was going to be cheap realiable fun then you didnt do the research before you bought it.
