10 psi when cold?

I recently replaced my factory boost solenoid with a new one and noticed that now when my engine is cold, my max boost is around 10 psi until the engine warms up, then I get full boost. Since my old solenoid was shot, I don't know if this is normal behavior for an 2003. I have no CEL's or anything right now. Running a dynoflash, apex'i power intake, and buschur catback (with stock cat and dp).

Anyone know?

The ecu will not let you boost until the car is warm enough... Why are you boosting on cold engine anyways? That very bad in my opinion.

From what I'm told it's normal. Since my old solenoid was bad I'll assume that's why I haven't seen it before.

Don't worry, I'm not boosting my car cold, I was just paying close attention since I replaced the solenoid and saw the 10 psi cutoff which I don't normally do. I'm not starting the car up in the morning and immediately tearing out of the driveway, so everyone's concern for my car, while appreciated, is unwarranted.

that is normal. i noticed this as soon as i put my boost gauge on 2 years ago. once i put an MBC i am just careful and make sure my coolant temp gets up a little before i get on it.

Ahh that would explain getting on the expressway onramp the other day... The car was running for a bit but as we all know it won't warm up very fast until you drive it. I had to get on the boost when pulling into traffic since an idiot went straight instead of turning and the car felt slower than normal. Mystery solved! Personally I'll leave the choice of boosting to avoid an accident up to me, not some ECU that says I am 5F too cold to have full power. I can see how this would prevent the abusive evo drivers from trashing the car as fast though!

Most of the cars I have owned including S4, S2000, GTI, RSXs and the Si have done the same thing. The vtech wont engage or I wont get full boost on some of the turbo cars above. It’s a safety margin that is set on stock ECUs. FWIW I warm up my car every time up to 5 min, no hurry just leave home 5 min earlier.
