Alky INSTEAD of race gas?

Help me out, I am a little slow. I enjoy the kick of the stock turbo (low rpm uumph) which you lose with a "big-turbo" what does Alky do? does it raise the octane level of the gas so you DONT have to run race gas? can you run race gas and alky? does it operate on a switch inside the car? Do you need larger injectors to run Alky more efficently? help me out!

What i would like to do is keep the stock turbo, but how do I get to the 400AWHP mark? do I go to the 280 cams and get the 10.5 hotside, and Alky injection? any other mods to add? (see current mods below) Thanks for the help!

400 AWHP is about what I'm shooting for as well. My plan is Buschur Stage 4, BR440 and methanol injection plus a flash/SAFC. It seems like 400 is a bit much to expect out of the stock turbo unless you get a standalone and a bunch of other bolt ons (ported manifold, ported exhaust housing, bigger hotside, bigger TB, ported intake, etc.).

alky acts as a fuel additive. it effectively increases your octane by lowering the intake temps of your motor. you can run race gas with alky to get even more out of the anti-detonation properties of the system. usually they operate by a pressure sensor hooked to an ecu control unit. it will begin spraying the alky at a predetermined boostlevel, then max out the injectors at another higher boost level. you do not need larger more injectors, unless you plan on running at a performance level that requires more fuel than the stock ones can handle.

Also, if by race gas you mean something like C-16, you won't need alky at all. If anything use just water, but with C-16 you probably won't need anything at all.

The reason I am saying just water is because water has the best cooling properties (highest heat capacity and latent heat of vaporization). But, if you wanted to run race gas, then a mix of methanol and water is your best bet. Maybe 70/30 meth/water. The water cools the best, meth also cools pretty good, but the meth increases your octane also. You will be able to lean out your mixture down to good power levels and perhaps increase your timing.

400whp is definitely possible on the stocker. full 3in turbo back exhaust, cams, 10.5 hotside, intake, alky injection, aem ems, and a good tuner and your there.

Buschur Stage 4 + 100% methanol & pump gas + stock turbo & 9.8 hotside = 390whp

Add an upgrade ignition system, like Buschur's or HKS Twin Power, and you'll easily see over the 400whp mark. So many people recommend that 10.5 hotside... I'd rather spend that money on ignition upgrade.

Race gas will raise your octane, hence, decreasing chance of detonation and knock and what not... allowing you to incrase boost and timing. Methanol decreases your intake temps dramatically, raises your current fuel's octane, and acts as a second fuel. No real point in using both unless you just want to be very safe at higher boost levels...

I run 100% VP methanol... you can purchase it at any local performance shop or race track that carries VP fuels (like C-16).

I don't think those sort of results are typical. Buschur Stage 4 usually makes 330-350 whp on a Dynojet and meth adds another 30 or so to that.

Just a quick question for you, why would you opt for the Exedy Triple Carbon if you plan on sticking with stock turbo?

you've pretty much summed up the important components of this mod (alky inj. kit), especially the "good tuner" part.

got mine installed by TT last Friday and you guys are pretty close to the numbers.

this mod is definitely worth it.
