Do you have an aftermarket exhaust on the car? With my cat back I've noticed it will pop when off the gas while shifting. It's normal and not a misfire. If it is popping when you are on the gas and you can feel the engine stumble that is a miss.

I don't notice a pop when I shift -- now I have heard a something similar to that when I hit the rev limiter....it's possible when you are shifting that you still have the throttle down....maybe??

i hear the pop right after i let off the gas and press in the clutch..so then i guess it's a normal thing then..when i shift i let go of the throttle..power shifting is bad lol, i just dont like doing it. anyways..is there a reason for the pop though? would you say it's a good thing of a bad thing?

I wouldn't say it's good or bad -- I would say it is as expected

It's from the lack of back pressure and residual fuel hitting the hot exhaust and burning. In my car shifting slowly from 1-2 and 2-3 @ 5,000 rpm it can be a really loud POP.

Typically you'd get a "service engine soon" indication on your dash if you misfire. I'm not sure if a single misfire will trigger this or if you need to hit a certain number of misfires. the code is something like PO300.

Now backfire from the exhaust is common with the evos, even stock ones.

I personally have never experienced it in any gear at any time under any circumstances.

That is a back fire. It is not a problem don't worry about it. It is simply unburned fuel vapor being burned in the catalytic converter when you let off the gas. If it were doing that when you were on the gas it would be a problem.

You should, it doesn't have to be the cat to light it off. Any part of hot exhaust should be enough. If you run a cat delete pipe you will most likely get fire out of the exhaust as well.
