black markings under valve cover?

hi,

i was changing my oil the other day and when i peered in the oil inlet opening, i saw these "black markings".. see images below...

anyone have any ideas what might have caused that or if it is normal?

thanks

I believe they are the lines that Mitsu used to measure the final 90 degree torqueing of the head bolts.

Basically, as stated above, it's an assembly aid.
