Retarded timing (Literally) and spoolup

Has anyone tried retarding thier timing at low RPMs.. say 2-3.7k rpms to a real low number (0 degrees or so) and see if that makes the turbo spool up faster in normal street driving? I know it would completely kill the low end obviously but I think it might make up for it by spooling the turbo much faster. How bad would it be to drive it like this normally? Or would i just look at the EGTs and make sure it aint cookin anything?
