Happy with your cams?

I'm thinking about getting cams, and I've read tons of threads, but i'm wondering who is satisfied/not with their cams.. post what kind you have and why you are or aren't satisfied... i'm leaning towards 264/272 hks.. (25whp gains??)but i want inputs.. also this looks like an involved install.. i've read that i should have the car tuned after so how much would this cost me (on average; cams+install+tune).

Im running HKS 272/272 and couldnt be more happy with them. As for the install if you have the tools there is a detailed write up on how to do it at evomoto.com. I installed mine myself, its actually pretty simple if you have the tensioner tool. For tuning all you have to do is mail your ECU off to Dynoflash, Turbotrix, or anyone who has the ability to reflash stock ECUs (turbotrix and dynoflash are just the most poplular) and they can do a reflash that will work great for you. Im running off a Dynoflash mail in flash on my cams and Im very happy with it. As far as install goes I would look to pay between 100 and 200 dollars for the labor on the cams. Hope that helps.

had the 272's for 30K miles, loved them, now have the 280's (4K miles) love them better, love the lopey idle! especially out the side-pipe. There is more umph with the 280's, and there is more "to let the dog eat" in higher rpm's. it depends on what you want to do with the car, (drag/auto-X/road-race etc..) the 272/264 is a good setup I have heard. do your research and see if you cant find a friend/local who would let you take their set-up around the block, to better help you get an answer. prices vary for cam install. out here 300-700, and get it dynoed when you can, or go to a tuner (Vishnu/Dynoflash/AMS etc..) as they surely have a "map" of the modifications you are going to put in the car, and they can flash your stock ECU, so you will be fine, and just dyno whenever for a few extra HP. Good luck!

Straight 264's HKS.

Best mod I ever did after I got it tuned.

It took me an hour to do with the tensioner tool.

But if your not mechanically inclined...I suggest let the pro's do it for you.
