Tuning Limitations and Options?

I was hoping to get some knowledge on the limitation of tuning with an AFC. I was thinking of getting a pocketlogger & wideband gauge so that I could lock in some good AFRs on the AFC. But is that basically all I can do with the AFC? Like what other parameters can be modified in sometihng like a XEDE, AEM EMS, etc. I have cams and wanted to tune them cause I hear you suffer from getting the full potential of the cams until you get them tune. What things need to be tuned in order for them to be used optimally? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

With an AFC, you can only control how much air the MAF reads. You have no direct way of controlling timing.

XEDE has much more flexibility and tuning capability, with the AEM EMS going full bore stand-alone.

You can only directly control AFRs, but you can also indirectly "control" timing by causing the ECU to adjust itself according to the stock ECU timing maps. It's not as good as what you get with a flash or with other, MORE EXPENSIVE tuning devices, but it is plenty good if that's what you already have.

I'm curious as to how you already have your S-AFC tuned without a logging device...did you do it on a dyno?

Yea not on dyno, I have the Proscan ELM scan tool so I logged it with that and my laptop but the speed is so slow so I can only get like intervals of around every 700rpms.... 3200, 3900, 4600, etc.. that's why I am getting a pocketlogger instead and also considering a wideband for tuning (to be more accurate and to monitor the AFRs constantly). But I just wanted to know what more there is to tuning besides AFRs and what type of parameters I could change in addition to the AFRs
