if you have an open element air filter of ANY type, you will hear the BOV (even the stock one). The MR is a bit louder than stock but not my a tremendous margin

try 2-3 days, Al overnights his stuff. I didn't think it was true until I sent my ECU on Monday and was back in my car on Weds. Or just wait til he comes near you.

Oh, well that I might be able to handle. It'd be even better if he came to Dallas and hooked me up with no downtime.

Turbotrix is coming in Oct to Dallas, they do the same thing.

K&N Filter - should be here next week thanks to another member here.

Cat back exhaust - not sure which one yet, just seems like turbo back may be more intense than I'm looking for, and I want to pass emissions no problem.

Turbo Timer - just to care for the engine

Blow Off Valve - cause they sound cool

Then various non performance accessories: alarm, UK badge, new shift knob, etc.

Does that sound pretty reasonable?
Reasonable enough yeah. Sounds like you know where you wanna go with it.

Don't sweat the emissions test...unless things have changed in the past couple of years. When I lived in DFW a few years back I passed emissions in my DSM no problem ....tbe w/ test pipe, egr blocked off, etc.

I just had to try a few different places before I found an inspector too lazy to look under the car on the visual inspection.

Spend the money on track time not mods.

Also, like people have suggested....don't waste the money on a BOV. You are just asking for problems.

If you are feeling particularly ricey and want to mess around ....just temporarily remove the top of your factory air box so the filter is exposed. Your filter will stay put without the top....and your turbo and BOV will be plenty loud enough to startle pedestrians.

Go to the Turbo Trix forum and sign up for a custom flash in Dallas on Oct 15/16... It will be the best money you can spend at this point. (personal experience)

The JDM MR valve is not a bad idea as OE valves have been known to leak at stock boost levels... (personal experience)

It would be best to have what performance mods you want installed on the car before your flash date. (You don't want to have to get reflashed over and over) However, don't get talked into some sort of user tunable management unless you already know how to tune. You very well could f-u-c-k up your car with one key stroke!

Depending on funds, and how hard you drive the car, a turbo timer is not a bad idea if you are the boy racer lazy type and want to power side into your parking spot in your race to work/school and immediately jump out of the car. (I'm an old turd, but fall into this group)

Last, not to plug myself, but if you have the means ($$$) I have the best deal going on the net for a full Evo turbo back exhaust. This coupled with the above valve/custom flash will put you right up to the edge of average Joe Evo driver's clutch capability. (personal experience)

Later on, you can look at cams and a clutch replacement... at this point, depending you your driving, they do pretty much go hand in hand (personal experience)

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to sell you anything by throwing my advise out there... I only sale Megan exhaust products because I was disgusted with the ridiculous pricing being charged for some tubing and a muffler... my little f-u-c-k you to "JDM-ism". I don't sell any of the products you probably are going to buy right now.

Great post Zeus but I would suggest not to do the flash. Only reason is the same you said. Get all the performance parts you want than get the flash. If you got the flash and than have to reflash for every part you add on... It will be cheaper in the long run to get a custom tune once you had everything installed.
I suggest a Turbo Timer (Blitz FATT w/ harness from JSC Speed for around $100-125), some type of turbo back or at least cat-back exhaust (Prices range from $400-$1500 depending on brand and if cat or turbo back. I got my RSR GTII for $360 shipped.), a stronger BOV (JDM MR for $110-$130), a MBC (Hallman RX for $90-120 or a Forge for $90) and a K&N drop-in filter ($40-65). Just my 2 cents.

Edit: I forgot to mention if you get any type of MBC you'll need a Boost gauge ($40-60) and a gauge pod ($20-40).

Yes you can and it actually works very well so you can fine tune the car for all conditions.

How often do these folks come around to do flashes? If I didn't do it in Oct, will they be back sometime next year? I'd certainly hate to pay for a flash and then add some parts and mess it up. And I don't imagine I will be buying my exhaust anytime real soon, as I just finished about $15,000 worth of home improvement projects.

Just to give you all an idea of the kind of owner I am (because this seems to have quite an impact on the mods) I'm headed toward 30, so not old yet, but I'm not street racing everyone either. I feel that as much time as we spend in cars, we may as well enjoy the experience. Every car I have owned since college has been something you "don't see everyday", and from there I just want to do a little something to make it stand out more. I don't race, I don't autocross, I typically drive in a pretty mild mannered way, but usually once or twice on a trip to the store, I like to get on it and enjoy the power. The main reason I want the filter/exhaust is to hear the car working, I've always loved that sound, not obscenely loud, but enough that people say "that's not stock".

After all the posts, here's my adjusted list:

K&N
Cat Back Exhaust
Dynoflash or Turbotrix
Alarm with built in turbo timer
