Question Clutch question ACT

hey guys I recently put a act clutch and prostreet flywheel with ss line with bg fluid. When i get into the car and start it when i go to put the car into reverse it is very stiff and locks out sometime same with everygear except 3rd then once i put into 3rd every gear is fine and even when I drive there is no problem. only when i start it as if something is stuck and not releasing. im getting the kartboy bushings for inside the engine and in the shifter consol should i buy this rod and replace my stock one and see if that helps it? it is def not the ss line or the fluid it has to be either the rod or pedal adjustment...please help guys i was also told that my rod might not totally be in and it might be loose is there a pic showing what it means to be all the way in. thanks!
Gary

I have not I want to do that as my last option since I already ordered the other stuff and I figured from what I hear that if u get the new rod it will do the same job as adjusting the pedal which I rather do to keep the comfort level of the clutch pedal as if its stock. Is this true about the rod taking car of it and I know the bushings wont make a huge diff but im doing it for extra security...lol i wish we lived in a perfect world were things would work first time around but oh well we want to go fast so pay the piper!

the rod does not work.. and in the real world when you install an act you must adj the pedal.. or you will have this prob. its in the damn instructions manual... all you will have is some more pedal travel thats all... but if you want to destroy your tranny and clutch, with the backyard mechanic fixes, be my guest...

Check your rod adjustment as mentioned above before you do anything else! My shifting at high RPM greatly improved on my new clutch after some adjustment.

sorry, but sometimes its the only way people listen.. now break the nut loose on the back of the rod, and turn the rod into the firewall, clockwise, making the pedal throw longer, mine took 4 turns till i got it to shift smooth... but as you said you wanna play your gonna pay.. want a better clutch, sometimes you get a longer throw.. i also removed my restrictor pill, which gave me shifts smooth as butter...

thanks dude don’t even worry i really didn’t mind i like when people like u help trust me the link on the road race engineering up top shows a pic of the rod adjusted to a certain level is that fine? I don’t know what people mean by adjusting the rod too long and how can u tell if there is free play im not an expert and i bet what they are talking about is very simple just quite not getting it. If I turn for turns like u and retighten the bolt and go out for a drive see if it helps is that good enough or if the pic at the rre site is good I will do it to that point. my problem is weird only when i start the car or when its at a stand still not when driving its fine even made all the power it needed on the dyno...

adj the rod 2 turns, take it for a drive, if it feels knotchy after 2 turns then adj. one turn at a time... when you dont feel a diff any more turn it back to the point of where there was no diff.. the job took me 45 min.. tedious, but effective..

thanks dude I will let all u guys know how it worked out btw with only 2 or 4 turns there is no way of over exceeding like people are saying not to overturn it and leave slack there should be plenty of free play with only 3-4 turns?

The way to check for free play is to press the clutch with your hand. You should be able to push it slightly and then it'll be like a wall. The smooth distance is your free play. I currently have 2 thread left on the rod. I haven't gotten a chance to fully retry shifting at high rpm. It's hard to do it on the streets do to cops and pedestrians. I'm might adjust it get 1 or 1.5 thread on the rod and recheck freeplay. If it's gone I'll try adjusting the upstroke. I wish there was a certain way to tell whether the clutch is fully engage or disengage.

you will know when its fully disengaged when your are able to shift smoothly.. as far as full engagement, you would know by the clucth slipping or the smell of burnt clutch.. the amount of freeplay is also in your owners manual.. freeplay stays the same, just with a, say act you need a longer clutch pedal throw..
