I thought Dylan left AMS way before the evo came out. He claimed that he ran 13 flat with those mods.

We also dynoed the car with 93 Ocatne gas and it made 188 wheel horsepower. That is still lower than we would expect to make on a 271 horsepower rated car. The car did run noticeably better with the 93 octane and felt somoother as well.

Wow this place flames up quick eh?! Hehe.

I read both threads about the EVO8's apparent hp levels on the dyno. Interesting to say the least. It seems that the one dyno reads low for everything, based on what I've always seen.

Really though, EVO8's are already posting mid 13's at the track. Sweet as that's what really matters. I suppose nobody here has ever seen a dyno queen do jack at the track.

One thing I do know is time will tell. I predict the EVO8 will be posting mid to low 13 sec ET's everywhere. Just as soon as the season begins. It'll be an eye opener for some, hehe.
I can't wait until a few of the tried and true DSM shops, like AMS, Buschur, Magnus, FP, etc. start fabbing parts for them.

It's all good.

Did you reset the ECU after putting in the 93 octane but before dynoing? Or at least drive around on 93 octane for a day or so?

DSM ECUs have a long term knock value in them that will cut timing and boost long-term. The ECU will test the octane by upping these values periodically, but it can take a while. Therefore you have to reset the ECU.

Of course, this is on DSMs. I suspect that there is a similar system on the Evo. However, I have no idea if resetting the ECU will reset the ECU back to "good gas" mode. It is always possible that the value is stored in flash in the new ECUs (though I doubt it), which would mean that cutting power to the ECU wouldn't do anything to the stored values.

I reset the ECU back when I had my talon many times around 9-11-01 when gas went through the roof. I couldn't afford to put premium in so I got stuck with 87 for about 3 weeks. At one point in time even after putting in 101 octane gas in my boost gauge still read 10.5 when I should have been running about 15 on that good of gas. SO....I just took it home after work one night and disconnected the battery for 15 min. AND BANG I was back to 15 psi....yes it does help, yes it will most likely help with the evo...because the boost management system is very very similar to a DSM. I believe that after time these engines will produce the 200-210 whp. One, they need to learn your driving style and two they adapt very fast to crappy gas...such as 91 octane!

We did reset the ecu, and tried a few other tricks as well. Same result.

DO you know what a stock WRX would run on that same dyno?

Another trick would be turning that knob on your dyno, it will make the HP read higher also.

The 300+ horses are due to incorrect dyno settings... i did my 1st dyno using shootout mode 4 (4 cyl 2wd) and got 308hp and 227hp (better accuracy) at wheel whilst the correct one should be about 250+hp at flywheel.... the stock evo7 gets about 210-230hp at the wheel (tested with 2 cars: 1 with airfilter and 1 with airfilter and downpipe back exhaust system)

Read my new thread on dyno results and repost your shoot 44 results there pls...

Se, this, ladies and gentlemen, is why you shouldn't take dynos to seriously.

Here they have lots of hP, there they don't have as much....

They still perform the same, it doesn't matter. maybe you would be happier if you bought your evo then immediately moved to Chicago so it had more horsepower.....
