How do I change compressor covers on a GT35R?
If I had GT35R with a standard t04e compressor cover and wanted to change it to a t04s compressor cover... what all would I need and can anyone either write up or PM me a step-by-step instructions on how to do it? The turbo is not bolted to anything and off of the car...
I'm assuming I'll need the proper backing plate to make the t04s bolt-up... or will the t04e's backing plate work? Anyone with any specific help, let me know... and thanks.

Once you have the correct cover on the back of your current cover there is probably 6 bolts connected with 3 straight brackets. unbolt all of them and just turn the cover and pull it off. It is a very good cut fit so it might fell tight, that is why I say turn the compressor cover as you lift it. Be very very careful. You do not what to nick any blades if possible. The new cover will just slip on where the old slipped off and you bolt it back up with the brackets so it cant turn or move.
I wish you luck on finding your cover. Its a bad subject that you buy a Garrett turbo but you can't hardly buy parts for it without having to buy a whole new turbo. The cost is unreal for some of the individual parts and I am in the same position looking for one for a GT3076.

Call Precision Turbo. I bought my ported compressor cover from them. I'm sure there are others that can help as well. In my case the backing plate wasn't an issue. The swap procedure described by GTVEVO is right on. It only takes about 20 to 30 minutes to swap the compressor cover even while on the car.
FWIW I have a Garrett GT35R t04s compressor cover I'd sell to you. $150 OBO.

I think I called them back in July. The cover I bought is a piece cast and machined by PTE. It's an exact replacement for the t04s cover but has been machined and drilled to do the surge porting. Since this wasn't a Garrett part it probably wasn't subject to any supply issues.
From what I gather it seems that Garrett got caught by surprise by the demand for the GT series turbos. Back in February/March they were on Galactic backorder. I'm sure the parts supplies are in short supply if they're having a hard time making the turbos.

Do you need a new backing plate to go from a t04e cover to a t04s cover on the GT35r?
Is your t04s for sale the PTE t04s w/ anti-surge ports... or the normal t04s? Is it including the backing plate with it? Used or new? Let me know...

You will need the correct backing plate to go from a T04E cover to a T04S cover. What propellerhead seems to be describing is that he originally purchased a turbo with the S cover but replaced that with a ported shroud S cover (same backing plate).
The compressor wheel must be removed to do this swap, which means only qualified turbo builders such as Precision should be doing the work. They may take your E cover in and use it as credit if you ask.
As for gains, if I remember correctly the S cover flows approximately 40cfm more than the E cover, although this may be different to the ported S cover numbers.
