Exhaust fit on a IX question

I read from the other posts that the cat of the evo 9 is different from the evo 8. Something where the o2 sensor is in a different positon.

I plan to get a cat back exhaust first, then go for the full turbo back in the future. If I install a catback will I have any fitment issues? I plan on installing it at home so will it be any different from installing one from an evo 8?

Most likely it isnt but just want to be sure.

Thanks in advance!

From what ive heard the 2nd 02 sensor on the IX is in the cat instead of the mid pipe like it is on the VIII. By installing an exhaust fitted for the VIII you will have an open bung for the sensor that will need to get pluged.

so if I get an evo 8 catback I just need to find a way to plug the second o2 port?? Can I just purchase a screw from a hardware store to fill the gap?? Or is it more complicated then that?

and the mounting points, brackets and all, are the same after the cat with the evo 8 right? I wont have any clearance issues with swaybars or anything like that?

thanks

If you get only a cat back, don't worry. You will have to remove a bracket, but the O2 sensor will stay in the cat. It is easy. If you are mechanically inclined, it will be no problem at all. Don't worry!

Only thing you should need is the plug for the 02 bung in the mid pipe. Any speed shop should have one.

OK then quick question. If I use a hi flow cat without a bung and then plug the 02 sensor in the cat back, will there be any problems?

Yes you can, but where are you going to install O2 Sensor itself ?

I was thinking about putting it in the o2 bung of the cat-back. I have yet to get my car on the lift and therefore am not sure about my options.

You can totally do that if the O2 sensor harness will reach that far.

From what I've read, the stock cats on the IXs are more high
flowing than the VIIIs.

That's probably why mitsubishi moved the O2 sensor on the cat itself.
