Leaking Stock Headgasket

It's 10.59pm on thursday night. I just had a real fun time doing this:

HG was leaking a little stream of coolant out the end by Cyl #4. No smoke out exhaust, no burning coolant (plug looks normal), no overheating, car still make 520whp. Oh well. Time for some new parts:

Fidanza cam gears
ARP headstuds
fresh mitsu timing belt and headgasket
cleaning out vac lines and crap that isn't used with ems.

Now I have to decide if I want to put the stock turbo back on or put the GT35R back on. think Im done drag racing the evo8 and pushing it harder every time, as sooner or later it's not going to be a simple HG that ****s the bed. Im going to do some autox in SM class. The 35R will be way to laggy, but the stock turbo will be slooooo for when I do want to run some 1/4mile.

Decisions Decisions.

So I guess I found the limit of the factory headbolts/headgasket. I made 9 runs last friday at 35psi making 525-530whp running 128mph in a full weight everyday car on dirty runs. Im going to measure the stock headbolts for stretch. The HG failure was extremely minor BTW.

Nice job! Did you install ARP HS using 1 by 1 method?

A few people along with me saw oil underneath the car near the Intake Manifold bracket. I believe HS is leaking due to the 1 by 1 method. No coolant in oil, no white smoke, and compression test out good.

The car had stock headbolts in it as of 21 minutes ago. The ARP's are still in the box waiting to be installed with the new hg.

I wouldn't do the 1 by 1 install, as I really think that's a gamble. and 99% of the guys who are putting the ARP's in, don't really NEED them. If you just putting them in for cheap insurance, I think your taking a risk disturbing the factory seal.

Does anyone by chance have a measurement or spec of a stock headbolt length that is accurate?

I'll look it up for you in the shop manual if I can remember tonight.

That's pretty impressive power output and boost pressure on stock headgasket and bolts!

Why don't you sell the GT35R and get a smaller turbo like a 3071 or 50 trim?

I highly doubt downgrading the a 50 trim E turbo would significantly help the spool compared to the big power loss. I want to autox the car now, and even the stock o3 turbo is "laggy" by autox standards.

the manual didn't have a stock length, just a limit to replace by: 99.4mm. Post up with how long yours come out to be.
