Hmmm Im spiking up to 23psi (controlled by the ECU) but I dont think my tuner removed the restrictor pill.

Does the restrictor pill have any effect if you have a flash or standalone?

restrictor pill....restricts. It doesn't allow you to boost a certain amount and creates taper...removal of it allows you to boost more and with less taper...
...it will inhibit the true power from the flash until it is removed

hey guys i have a 2 month old 05 evo and it hits 21 easily. at first it would only go up to 17, then we took the gauge apart and the cord behind it wasnt tighly connected.

if not thats probably why ur only getting 17.5

i mean stock i always got 19 then taper to 16, and then once i got my exhaust it went to 21 max without any other mods. so exhaust does make an amazing difference for our cars.

now my greddy profec b isnt a MBC, its an electric boost controller ( i say electric not electronic cuz theres no display or anything- just knobs to turn the boost up and down) and i cant stress enough- this is just to control my max boost-- it changes so drastically with the weather-- i have to turn it waaaay down in the mornings or else im boosting 25+

Lastly, I wanted to mention Ive had my car over 2.5 years now and i started to mod it about 6 mos after I got it. So ive had these mods and have been boosting 22 psi and more for about 2 years now and my car hasnt blown up yet! so I think its fairly safe. but I guess we'll see.. i just hit the 50k mark....
Is this possible, so you're saying if I upgrade my stock exhaust I should see higher boost? But I thought stock psi= 19 with no mods I assume. Let's just hope you're right about this. I'm planning on getting a new exhaust next feb. wish me luck.

i just my espelir catback in about a day ago. i feel the car spools up a bit faster but as far as more boost, the gauge still says 21 for me.

Bingo - thank you Evom!

If you have a flash for example - is it as simple as removing the pill or is there more to it?

what's the point of the 22psi vids again? ...i have a profec b spec II + dynoflash(+ more) and i hold 22.5-22psi all day....22psi stock...highly doubt it ...19psi stock w/ taper due to restrictor pill...u take out the restrictor pill boost may go higher than usual
Thank you. That was the point of the vids- they were saying its impossible to hold 22 psi and it will taper back no matter what mods you have. And i was just saying that mine doesnt do that- it holds.
So we just wanted a video to verify that.

Yea the exhaust will definately give you more boost- now again i did the whole thing-- 3 inch downpipe, hi flow cat, and catback. so i cant comment if you only do a catback exhaust for example. I just know i did my intake and BOV and gauges first, then i did my exhaust and saw it started hitting 20.5- 21 psi without any tuning, boost controller or anything else. Lastly i did the boost controller and flash and im right where im at now

In any event, i dont think you will ever be sorry for doing an exhaust on your car... ever.... ( unless it sounds crappy!)

nice! -- forgot to mention I topped my evo at 150 while it was bone stock.
Since getting the flash which removes the speed governer from what i understand, i havent tried. Ive hit 140 a few times but stopped!! 150 is high enough for me. lol.

I would remove the pill before the flash...if it's just a base flash...then you can remove the pill whenever...if you're getting a custom flash...have the pill(s) removed prior to the tuning. Airflow will affect your power....1-3 psi makes a difference...if you get tuned for 20psi to taper to 18psi...then the optimum power your ecu will see efficiently will be that...if you take the pill out later and spike to 23/22 and hold 22/21 to redline...your fuel curves will be messed up a little that you wont make as much power as you think you would with a boost increase...that's why it's better to be boosting right before you get flashed....so the ecu can't mess with your curves. Remember try to keep your boost at the same level you were flashed out...more consistent power that way...don't turn up the booost for a race.

Haha I was trying to make the question simple and just made it more complex =/.

I dont make any changes to my car without retuning. What you are saying is that if I remove the pill and make no other changes to the car (other than a retune) that the taper should be reduced and there will no negative side effects (assuming it is a proper tune). Correct? Or is removing the pill not enough - you need an MBC as well as a retune? (I have a standalone ecu which is why I use the term retune instead of reflash).

you don't need a mbc...some evo's have crappy stock boost controllers and require a mbc / the wastegate to be bypassed. Removal of the pill will have no ill effects if you are tuned afterwards...wouldn't hurt to have a mbc though.
