How much boost in winter?

Hey, i was just wondering how much boost you guys were running in the snow. We got the first real snow of the season here and i was boosting 20 pounds and i think that i should turn it down a bit seeing as how i cant use the boost to its full potential right now. I still want to have enough boost to spin the tires during a slide. So whats an average boost level for winter driving?

why turn down the boost? Maybe just drive more cautiously in the snow, rain and ice?

In fact, you could probably be running a little more boost on pump gas as it is.

Either way, enjoy the winter and the great car!

Your question is very good. You should be careful with boost levels in the winter. Not so much for the snow or ice but because the cold winter air is very dense and the car can overboost and will run very lean.... This can be a real danger specially if the car is modified. I damaged a Integra GSR engine that way. It was supercharged and one cold winter morning it ran incredibly strongly (I think it made a lot of boost) and after that, I lost oil and got a CEL for missfire of cyl #3... After compression tests and all kinds of hassle, I determined that the #3 cylinder was bad

In my EVO, after I changed back to the stock catback and the weather got cooler, the car was running much leaner (in the 12.XX range) and boosting to 23 p.s.i. Needless to say, it was retuned to a more safe AF ratio and lower boost.... Amazingly, the power went up a little bit with the safer tune.....

I turned mine down because I can't have it much higher then 18 with out hitting fuel cut, when the temps dip below 30F.

Is it really that bad? It was in the 20's here last night and i was boosting 20 psi without hitting fuel cut.

I'm tapping 23psi and dropping to 21 on 93 octane this winter. I hooked up my wideband the other night and the a/f was sitting at 11.5 straight across in 3rd gear and 11.2 across in 4th. I do have a walbro though.

You are definitely OK. However, nnorris7413 does not mention knowing his AF ratios and does not list his mods.... I'd guess he's got some stuff since his sig says something about higher HP than stock...... I'd say he has a fair chance of granading his motor if he runs high boost in very cold days......
