Best clutch for around $500
Best clutch for around $500
tried searching but couldn't find the results I was looking for.
My clutch went out on my 05, and what's the best clutch to get that's around the $500 range.
I was originally think the clutchmasters, but all my friends said dont go with them. So I was then thinking the Exedy.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I REALLY hope you get a good clutch for five hundred, and make sure you post about it - but I think you're going to spend a bit more than that (plus the labor or your time, if you're mechanically apt enough to diy)...
How many miles and how much horsepower have already destroyed your stock clutch, btw?
Good luck with it, and keep searching (but plan on spending some more money).

People more than likely are going to say ACT.... You're also going to have to fork out around 300-400 for labor and money for misc things.. flywheel resurface.. fluids.. etc..

It all depends what you are doing with the car.
The ACT HD is awesome - and the Exedy Stage 1 is a solid clutch as well.
Both will hold 12 second 1/4 mile passes and both will cost about the same.
Exedy will have a little lighter pedal feel, but the ACT will hold more power in the end.
Like I said - it all depends what you are doing with the car AND what your expectations are.
Also - don't forget - you'll have to resurface your flywheel or buy an aftermarket one...
If you have any questions - feel free to give me a call.

I know labor and resurfacing will cost extra. That's why i'm looking for just a clutch around $500.
With what i'm doing to the car i'll only be looking for low 12 second passes, dont need anymore than that with driving to school and work.
Places in STL are crazy though they want 1500 for install, it's ridiculous.
As far as how much hp i'm pushing when the clutch went out. I dyno'd at 265whp I only have a full TBE. One day the clutch was strong and fine, never really pushed it that often. Then the next day i'm on the highway in 5th gear. Started to pass someone, when my RPMS skyrocketed. And now I have about 1/8th of an inch of engagement at the top. Are the stock clutches that weak?
and thanks everybody for the advice, i'll go look into the ACT clutch. And is that ACT HD clutch the same one on lancershop.com that says street clutch edition?

The reason the stock clutch works fine one day and slips like mad the next is because the pressure plate has stops built into it (tall rivet heads) that bottom out once the disc wears a certain amount. Most clutches don't have stops like this so they gradually get worse over time. That's not the case with the EVO. Once the pressure plate bottoms out, it ceases to clamp onto the disc.
If you do choose our clutch, thanks!

RPS 2900 LB with Street Disk holds 500+
See if you can get a local shop to show you an RPS and an Act side by side.
Nothing wrong with the Act, but for close to the same money you might decide to get the heavier hardware.
very strong with very beefier disk. Reasonable feel for traffic.
