How do you guys check your boost?

Just wondering, everyone is always throwing out boost numbers. It would be interesting to see how everyone comes up with this boost number. For instance when I first got the evo I thought your boost was what it would hold til redline. But now when I want to set my boost I will put it in 4th gear at 3k rpms and floor it. What ever it spikes to is what I call the boost im running. Which seems wierd since the car will never see that high of boost on a pass down the track. But it makes it easy to set it at the same place everytime.

How do you guys do it?

I use a boost gauge, I dont bother with spikes, just whatever it levels off to is what I go by....

I refer to the boost I hold after the initial spike, which is what I see in 4th gear right after my 3-4 powershift at the dragstrip around 5600rpm, but not the boost I see at 7k rpm.

Well since my mail in dyno flash every single gear holds me @ 20psi all the way to redline.. no spike at all.

The hoses to my mbc are < 8" long, I use a contraption to reach it so easy to adjust, so I dont experience spikes at all. If I do a 3rd or 4th gear pull it reaches 22psi - (max psi seen) I use that as the boost (conservative) and say 21 - 22 psi which is the window of boost seen.

Is that with a boost controller or not?

I have a little hose running from the manifold into the cockpit. Whenever I want to check the boost, I remove the little cap and put my finger over the hose and feel for pressure.......

You should put that hose in a water bottle and see how many bubbles it blows in a second.

My "sport meter" boost gauge reads 1.4 bar steady (Dynoflash of course). I beleive that is 20.X psi.

No boost controller..I am assuming that Al or Buschur, (haha don't know who did it because Al was at Buschur's when he did my flash,) used ecutek and there is a way to control boost built in the software and I am pretty sure they just set it at 20psi.
