The IXs are brand new. I don't think anyone has had time to find out, and it doesn't seem to be a problem in the early miles so far.

What do you mean? You mean you're thinking about purchasing a IX and actually are hesitating because of the 03s synchro issue? What prompted this question?

I dont think u have to worry about grinding on a IX, because of the rare amounts of this happening on an 05. Ya, I hope you are not hesitating on buying a IX because of common problems found on an 03.

Grinding....got no stinkin' grinding!

I got no grinding in my 03 VIII - only when foot wasnt all the way to the board and I rushed a shift....but I'm aware of the various problems, so maybe I got lucky. I used Redline. Never had problems, I always waited until the tranny was warm (you could feel it), and very little metal paste on the magnets. The IX tranny is much more forgiving when cold, but I still give it a few miles on the highway to warm up before playing Speed Racer with it. No grinding on the 6 spd.

I have an 03 that occationally grinds.....its definately a tranny issue because even when you try to get it in gear a second or third time it still grinds even with the pedal plastered on the floor. I have a stiffy dampener and it still does it. It happens about once every 30 high RPM shifts.

Thank god for the warranty.....if it does take a crap or get worse mitsu has to fix it!

That being said I hope the 06s don't have the problem .....but since the 05s still did I wouldn't be surprised.

It's a synchro issue. It should have been a recall.

3000gt VR4 had the same grind issue from day 1. 9 model years. all they did to fix it was issue a TSB for friction modifier.

no reason to recall because its not a safety issue. mitsu doesnt care about keeping the customer happy like some other brands

my evo ix never goes into 2nd smoothly. Very similar to my 03. Every other gear is butter though.... I also cant put it into 1st gear unless I'm completely stopped. I might think about adjusting the clutch a little bit...

Yea I think its just nature of the beast. We need to put in some good BG Syncroshift and I think it will also shift much nicer. Im going to try that before I play with the clutch adjustment
