BR Race FMIC on the streets.....

Here is a datalog from or Race FMIC on a 2005 EVO8. I think you guys will find it interesting how cold the air intake charge temps stay from beginning to end, een with a turbo that is putting out some very high temps from making 25 psi of boost.

The car is a BR Stage 4 with an AEM EMS, 780 cc injectors, no cat, race FMIC and 280 cc injectors.

Notice the air temps starting at 62 degrees F, dropping to 59 degrees F and then making their way back to only 64 degrees F after 4 gears of 25 psi boost pressure.

The actual temps here when this log was done, Friday, were in the upper 50's F. Just so you all know.

I'd have to say this is impressive.

Thanks for viewing.

Just barely above ambient temp, looks like a great cooler!

I can attest to how well this FMIC core works. I put it on with a GT35R and picked up 6mph in the 1/4 compared to the stock fmic in the similar conditions.

I made a post when I installed and tested it regarding actual temp rises and conditions/power gains. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ight=race+fmic

^ Wow thats an incredible result, I posted above accidentally under my bros name.

Does this core (im sure it does) require the removal of the crash beam? Does it mate to stock piping? or does this have a backdoor inlet like the others i've seen?

thx

Dave,

How does the Deluxe FMIC compare to this (if you've taken similar measurements)?

The large intercooler is making much more of a difference than I would have thought.

Though the BR website says modification of the crash beam is necessary, I think I read a thread from someone that installed this FMIC by only breaking off a couple of front bumper mounting tabs that really weren't necessary. I need to go back and do some more reading.

27.2lb

the stock fmic was 9.8lb

almost 3X the mass to sink heat into!

I don't have any recent Deluxe FMIC runs but the temps do rise with our Deluxe FMIC more than this unit. Quite a bit more actually.

The Race FMIC will use the stock intercooler plumbing. The crash beam can stay. The front fascia needs little bit of trimming just where the grille pieces are held in. The undertray also requires a little trimming. Not as much as our Deluxe unit as the Race sits higher in the car.

This car has only an air inlet temp sensor on the outlet side of the intercooler in the upper i/c pipe about 10" past the intercooler.

Hey Dave do you have any comparisons between the stock, Basic, Deluxe, and Race? I recently purchased a Deluxe from you when you were running the special but after reading this I wish that I would have gotten the Race. What HP level does the Deluxe support? Thanks.

The deluxe is rated for 750 flywheel HP. The deluxe FMIC kit is a great kit and comes with the lower i/c pipes. On the other hand our race FMIC is just flat out LARGE and that's where the extra cooling potential comes in.

I do not have datalogs from our other intercoolers. When I finish a car and the customer leaves happy I give it a few weeks and delete all the old datalogs. If I didn't do this the my laptop would be over crowded with old files.

Buschur Race Intercooler is one badass intercooler. Car runs great and I will also post some pics so you can have an idea how it looks like when the bumper is on.

I assume that wasn't with alky. Do you have any idea how much alky injection renders the cooling of the FMIC less important since you are getting the cooling of the charge another way? I think there is some belief on the board that if you have alky there isn't as much to be gained from a better FMIC. Dave, can you comment on that?
